@keenworld I agree. They started with email a decade ago and even though it was unfinished they tacked on calendar, storage, vpn and so on. I would have wished that they finish one thing before starting another.

My biggest gripe is that they are incredibly distracting to use while driving. The safety implications are huge. I hate on-screen buttons. On top of that most are poorly coded and run slowly.
That’s a rounding error on their P&L
@ArtVandelay Logic is not what got them into this situation, logic is not what will get them out of it
Personally, I created two communities here that I frequented on /r, /m/Amex and /m/Signal because I wanted to help build kbin up overall, and give a home to those that migrated. Full disclosure, I will eventually step back from moderating once those communities grow and become self-sufficient with additional moderators joining in.
There is an app, check out https://kbin.social/m/ArtemisApp
And here is the The Unofficial Signal Messenger Community on the fediverse: link
@NotAPenguin Maybe, what is your interpretation of “Hey, boost == 2*upvote. Simple as that ;)”
@Mr_Figtree I’m pretty sure this is the issue as lemmy.world just updated to 0.18. They are being “re-linked” to kbin as we speak, https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] just popped up and timestamped as created 52 minutes ago. Perhaps something with caching? No idea, it goes beyond my area of knowledge but definitely something broke just a few hrs ago.
@Mr_Figtree It’s broken because of the 0.18 update as linked by Alexmitter above…
@Alexmitter Thanks for linking the relevant repo issue, that explains it.
@Mr_Figtree I am not 100% sure what you mean by “you need to search for them and interact with those communities for your instance to start pulling in content”. The URL syntax for federated communities outside of kbin is fixed to https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]. So https://lemmy.world/c/bogleheads should work via https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] when federating properly. However it isn’t even coming up in search at the moment: https://kbin.social/magazines?q=bogleheads
Perhaps something to do with the very recent lemmy.world update to 0.18.1-rc?
Yes it does. That’s literally what Ernest said and I even linked his statement on that in the post. It would behoove you to read it.
Negative, because spez is a dick and ernest is a cool dude. Having said that, Ernest is the person who build kbin (the software) and also kbin.social (this instance of the kbin software), amongst other things.
I feel it’s also important to add that, at least in my understanding, Ernest never meant to be next large content aggregator CEO. From what I gather, he is a dev first and foremost, who was publicly alpha-testing what he built as an alternative to lemmy. Somehow this test instance ended up being a reddit migration outlet which he is now trying to keep alive all the while developing its underlying software. That’s at least two substantially different full-time jobs with very diverse objectives. It’s a miracle it all works as well as it does, tbh.
Politicizing the topic through the means of tribalism is certainly an objective of interests against the fediverse so undoubtedly we will see more of that happening as unfortunate as that is. There are absolutely parties interested in pushing manufactured division and creating “us vs them” camps. I certainly hope that most users steer away from the quite frankly silly discussions of why one is better than the other. At the end of the day it should simply be a personal choice based on perhaps aesthetics or some other set of minuscule factors rather than politics. In regards to kbin and it’s currently limited functionality: many of today’s large platforms began in a very similar fashion. I personally enjoy the quirkiness of kbin and my proverbial hat is off to Ernest for the effort he has put into this.
Popeyes hands down
Or a lot more confused as today you can simply say kbin and tomorrow you have to specify which one.
Kinda looks like kbin
