The list looks great! The only recommendation I’d make is to maybe add an additional 500 GB SSD and put the OS on that, and use the 4 TB drive for just storage. I like to do this with builds so that if something happens with the OS drive (e.g. corruption or driver issues), you can comfortably reinstall the OS on the smaller drive and minimize data loss.

Tales of Vesperia was always a favorite couch co-op RPG of mine. With the Steam release, you can even play the game remotely with everyone via Steam Remote Play Together. It’s not an MMO, and the exploration is single player, but up to 4 players can control the party members in battle. The only major gripe I have with the Steam version (applies to all versions of the remaster) is that if playing in English, some of the voice work that was added in to the remaster is noticably inconsistent with the original dub, since there was about a 10 year gap between recordings. But if that’s not a deal breaker (can always opt for Japanese audio), I’d definitely suggest it.

2·1 year agoTrue. But do I really need all those case fans that I’m holding onto? Or that big bag of DDR3? Probably not but it’s cool ok…

23·1 year agoMy first answer would have been retro game collecting, but that’s already been discussed, so I’ll posit custom PC building. That’s a hobby rife with keeping spare parts “just in case”.

10·2 years agoI’ve recently gotten hooked on the Yakuza series. The whole series goes on an aggressive sale pretty regularly on Steam. I’d recommend starting with Yakuza 0.
Here’s the original. Seems like the “Ape Escape” piece was added via a repost at some point. I was confused too why Nintendo systems were used instead of PlayStation as well.

6·2 years agoThere’s Nerrel who is both very entertaining and knowledgeable/informative about the N64 and emulation. He does use strong language so just wanted to point that out in case that isn’t your cup of tea.

It’s sad to see it go. As a game preservationist, being able to back up and emulate your games is so important to me. Not to mention a game like TotK can’t even reach it’s full potential on a retail Switch, and Yuzu allows that game to be played in 4K at 60fps if you have the computing power to drive it. Overall, it was probably the right call for Tropic Haze to give in to Nintendo now rather than battle them (as much as I didn’t want to see Nintendo win this) because a court battle could have challenged emulation as we know it. A settlement avoids that for now. I don’t support piracy at all, but I can’t say it suprises me considering how Nintendo treats its customers and the gaming community as a whole.
Yeah! There was a mini-game called “Chao Adventure” that would let your chao go for a walk with little events that would happen along the way. It was also the only way to see your chao’s stats and name them.
I’m all for the Scott Pilgrim memes
Garchomp!
Persona 3 FES. It was a pivotal game for me. Beating that game was my gateway to more challenging RPGs and made me start paying attention to voice actors due to the amazing performances in that game.

1·3 years agoThat’s funny. But like the article says, it’s not like it will do permanent damage, it’s just displacing fat and soft tissue and natural head shape gets restored after a long enough break from wearing headsets.

This but also the Dreamcast.
