I wouldn’t say you rarely encounter written hiragana. It’s in practically every sentence because, as you mentioned, it carries the grammar of a sentence. Particles, conjugations, auxiliary verbs are all written with hiragana.
As one of my Chinese friends in grad school put it: he could kind of understand written Japanese but had no idea what was going on with “those weird characters everywhere.”
Always at least double the garlic called for.
There is a home video of me when I was like 6 happily swimming around in a lake with my family, equipped with flotation devices. I was having a great time, laughing and clearly enjoying myself.
Then my grandfather comes and forcibly removes all of my flotation devices and drags me out deep to force me to swim back to “teach” me how to swim. The whole time I was being dragged out I was shouting “No! No! Not like this!”
It’s a wonder I don’t have a fear of water.
I guess I do also have my childhood landline still, but that’s been out of service for over 15 years. But it is one more phone number I have memorized.
It also blows my American mind how memorizable that long number is. It’s probably largely the jingle, but I can remember that cold without thinking about it for years. But I can only hold like 4 American phone numbers in my head. Without my contacts I can call: myself (helpful), my wife (I’d better), and both of my parents (good to have backups).

Definitely, my cats love to sniff all of my cooked meals. I’ll bring it to them if they’re lounging to pay the sniff tax!
I normally set the grocery bags down when I get home and let them investigate before I put stuff away.
That’s good enrichment right there! Cats love to investigate new and interesting smells within their territory.
Never underestimate stupidity. Though I do think it’s at least not normally people trying to connect two strands that are themselves already live. It’s normally people who are connecting several strands together and started at the end not plugged in with the male end poking out, not realizing that this means when they’re done stringing and go to plug in they’ve got the female end and no way to plug it in.
Left facing the daunting task of completely undoing all the work they just did, they try to look for something to bridge the gap without thinking through to the danger.
I appreciate a good “um actually” but this really is about Christmas lights. People really are stupid enough for this to be something posted specifically around December.

I’m gonna guess winter, hanging Christmas lights. People string up their lights and then realize far too late that they put two strands with female ends facing each other and instead of restringing they look for a male-to-male cord to bridge the gap.
A little live wire shouldn’t stand in the way of holiday cheer, after all.
Silo also has several falls that should absolutely kill people. One that’s like dozens of feet into the pile that they throw all sorts of sharp metal objects on? Dead.
Free falling off a bridge with just a rope tied around your waist that stops you? At the very least your back is fully broken, but that fall looked long enough that you should just be dead. Full Gwen Stacy.
Yeah, I love that show. They do a really good job staying grounded in real physics when they’re not in the fiction side of sci-fi. IMO, their space mechanics are unmatched in sci-fi.
I love lots of franchises that also do it poorly, but I’m always pleased when they go the extra mile.
Neither “Playable” nor “Verified” status means no issues, unfortunately. It’s still good, but IMO the current rating system leaves a lot to be desired.
+ All of physics. Especially anything involving characters falling, lasers, explosions, firearms, and any physics in space (sound, motion, temperature, black holes).
Not that it’s known physics, but time travel falls into this category too. Not the time travel itself, that’s just suspension of disbelief, but having time travel mechanics be internally consistent. It’s difficult to do well.
Bonus points if two characters are playing together, frantically mashing buttons, and the game on screen is single player.

This is exactly what my friend would say! Wikipedia is a genius example to use. That upper section is mostly nouns, not complete sentences, so it’s just kanji that are mostly readable to people to understand Traditional Chinese characters. The の character is a grammatical particle (written in hiragana) indicating that 最大 is modifying 都市, to give largest city.
And then all the “curvy” characters in the body of the text are the hiragana carrying the grammar of the sentence. You can understand the nouns and verbs since they’re written in kanji, but the grammar surrounding them is in hiragana. That’s why I thought it was odd for the other person to say you rarely encounter written hiragana. You really can’t write a complete sentence or much more than a single word without it.
