  • My gaming friend group is 8 or 9 people. When you want to hang out digitally, you just jump in our discord and see who is currently playing. You jump in the channel, join the conversation. If the others are currently in a match that can’t be hot joined, someone will put on a stream for you, so you can watch and have an easier time joining the conversation.

Sometimes a friend is playing a game that you don’t own or they want to show you. Easily done with a stream. Streaming on Discord is very useful to us.

We use the webcam feature for our Tabletop Roleplaying Sessions.

One “feature” that Discord has that will be missed by our small community: Being able to see who is in a voice call without having to join it.

We have spent the last week exploring alternatives and it looks like we will be using a combination of self hosted matrix and mumble unless self hosted stoat gets voice very soon.

  • mostly becuse in most places, nuclear does not recieve subsidies.

This is just not true. Nuclear plants receive subsidies in the US and most European countries. The big exception being Germany, where the current government tried to reenter nuclear energy production, but they could find any private sector partners that wanted to build new plants without significant subsidies.

Subsidies for nuclear plants are usually payed out during construction and decommission of plants, but that’s still subsidies.

  • I don’t think you can generalize to the degree you are implying here.

There are significant differences between how we (as in humans) act outside the family and inside the family. Somebody may be toxic, have substance abuse issues, or display sociopathic traits outwardly but be a kind, loving and caring person towards their children. This discrepancy would of course create conflict, but parents not being perfect is also perfectly normal and happens in middle class families too.

I personally know a couple of people from fairly rich families. And while some of them definitely had toxic parents, some did not. Most of them are just people. In a lot of cases its just a case of ignorance. How they react to being confronted with their ignorance is IMHO more relevant for character judgement and that is also a trait instilled by their parents.

For what it’s worth, the absolutely worst parents I know are thoroughly middle class.

  • Specifically where it relates to violent crime.

Essentially it is supposed to make statements like the following a rule violation:

“If someone murdered [fictional person] they would totally get acquitted because any jury would just nullify the charges.”

While the following sentence would not be a violation of TOS:

“The murderer of UHC CEO Brian Thompson should get acquitted via Jury Nullification because [reasons] and this is super dope.”

The first example could be read as a call to violence, while the 2nd is not calling for a crime.

As I understand it “All future jurors in money laundring cases should nullify, because tax evasion is… like… super cool” would also be legal, because money laundring is not a violent crime.

  • I generally agree, but there are two addenda.

First: Even the worst should be burried with dignity, because their behaviour is not the standard by which we measure our actions. Nobody is so evil that they can take our will to be decent human beings. So we do the right thing (decent burrial) to spite evil.

Second: With dignity is not the same as “with reverence” or “with honor”. In many cultures criminals are denied certain parts of funeral rites (like processions, official or acknowledged mourning periods). This reinforces social norms to the living (don’t do the bad thing or you will be shunned by society) and can also prevent retraumatizing their victims. The most common form of this is not allowing to have their gravesite marked. This is done so that their family may have a place of grief (the unmarked grave) but to prevent the grave from becoming either a shrine to their followers or a target of defilement by the victims. A fairly well known example of the last part is Adolf Hitler who was properly buried in an unknown location and then a parking lot was put over the area with the possible grave sites.
