Unfortunately that is by design. Walmart actively works to close down local stores and corners the market on wholesalers to control the price so they are the lowest price in any area. Only ones that can usually stand up to them or places like Aldi.
Personally I have been boycotting Walmart for over 15 years because they refuse to hire most of their employees full time so as to dodge having to provide mandated health insurance and they have a long history of completely screwing the lives of people who use their automated check out system.
Couldn’t pay me to shop at their horrible stores. FUCK Walmart and FUCK the Walton family who’ve become billionaires off the back of poor people in America.
I agree that the technology isn’t the problem here. It’s the corporate mentality of trying to squeeze customers for all they are worth on a personal basis that is the big issue. That and surge pricing should be made illegal. Having to pay more for a thing just because a flock of other people decide to get it at the same time you do is absurd.

Not running down Signal or any other e2ee client out there. But there are in fact ways to prevent the recipient from retaining and, at least via the device they are using to receive the messages, copying the data within messages. Several banking apps actually include such measures. And perhaps even having a Mission Impossible-esque self destruct on the message where it re-encrypts and then deletes the messages after they have been viewed is a viable way to prevent retention. It would not prevent somebody from using another device to snap a picture of the information in the message, but it would definitely cut down on people’s ability to easily leak private conversations that are intended to stay that way.
There’s no problem with Signal’s encryption. It’s the same issue with any and to end encryption scheme, at either end is a person who can very easily copy and paste everything that has been said in the conversation and send it off to anybody they wish.
Because it makes for a good distraction from actual problems that they don’t care to solve because those problems would require them to heavily tax millionaires and billionaires.
With compatibility layers being what they are these days I don’t think it’s going to be too much of a problem.

Yeah that’s because they have a state sanctioned version of TikTok that is controlled by an algorithm that police’s peoples speech and what they do and reports anything untoward to the proper authorities.
And now that Fox News has bought TikTok, the US has their own version of an algorithm that will police people’s speech and what they do, and most likely report anything untoward to the proper authorities.
It’s Ok now though cause TikTok was bought by Fox News.
