After doing a quick scan of their FAQ, there’s nothing about who generated the key. So my wild guess is the client. I bet their source code can answer that question, but I have no clue.

Based in USA and using AWS? Hard pass. Even Stripe is bad enough, but I do understand that one.

False. If you want to tell how things works, get your facts right!
All data sent to Telegram’s servers will be encrypted once they reach the servers. With other words, the messages and media and other files, will be sent in “plain text” over HTTPS only when using Cloud Chat. In Secret Chat, MTProto is (based on how E2EE works) as safe as what Signal Protocol is.
But nothing will be stored in plain text, no matter what you use (Cloud Chat or Secret Chat).
But(!) since the source code for MTProto is closed, we don’t know how it really works, and if we can trust their FAQ or not.
I trusted Telegram at first, but I don’t trust it 100% anymore (still better than SMS). Am using my own Snikket server these days. Much safer with a lot of 😌😊😍😃 moments, even today, maybe a year later. Especially with OMEMO (Signal Protocol).

I tried it 2 days ago. MAZANOKE does a better job. imgcompress made the file size bigger than MAZANOKE’s despite same settings.

You actually can drag-n-drop pictures to the chat. Just drag them (dropping multiple images is possible) to the message text field and the image will be uploaded and shown in the chat - scaled down if it is big.
Truly disgusting and worrying.
I use my own Piped instance and can watch every video that has no age-restriction. Feels awesome and can highly recommend it.

Disgusting.
Yeah. Let say Signal goes down because of Big Tech and lets say that 50% of their users use Signal as their only messaging app. What will happen then? Hysteria!
No, XMPP all the way for me until Signal becomes decentralized with zero external connections and when they also have removed the phone number requirement.
I totally agree with you. But!
But Signal from what I’ve heard really wants us to use their server.
Signal doesn’t have their own servers. Instead, they rent servers from 4 companies, 3 of them is Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. So Signal is relying on Big Tech and if Big Tech decides that enough is enough, they can easily shut Signal down.
THAT is what I find most terrifying. And why not use their own server? Not enough money, but they are working on it (good).
And to make it a little bit worst: Signal depends on a third party company for sending out SMS. Your phone number is therefore handled by not Signal, but by yet another company, highly likey an American company. And they are against privacy invading companies at the same time they are one. Oh, the irony.
You want sources? Sure.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the idea of Signal. But there is flaws that makes Signal more privacy invading than privacy friendly.

Thank you! Finally someone that also sees Signal as privacy invasing!
Ok. Same here, as of now (small group of people). I haven’t noticed any spam even if I have my XMPP address public. In pure text that is, but still.
If that is true, I haven’t noticed anything yet.
No bots in XMPP, please.
Just wanted to thank you for the idea of having an wiki for every relative on my own genealogy website. Thank you! :) Added that feature right after I read your posts maybe 13 days ago.

I find the quality very good. And there’s no problems with setup a “server” :)
Once inside and as a moderator, you can create so called breakout rooms. These works just like subchannels in Discord. If you’re many people in 1 call, you can create these to create a more calmer experience. I have personally not tried these out since I have only talked to 1-2 people.
Mumble is a excellent VoIP software, but like you said, screen sharing is not possible since Mumble is just what VoIP means: voice over IP.

I have the same issue, but got 2 Discord users to try Jitsi Meet with me (a friend of mine on my Snikket server invited her friend). After a while, her friend asked me why it looked so much alike Discord and my friend agreed. I gave them a big smile and said, “because this is awesome”.
Jitsi Meet + Snikket has been my saves since I deleted my Discord account during the pandemic.
You think that Proton and Brave is on the same level of privacy as Google, Apple, and Microsoft?
Still better than Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chome.
I am not defending Telegram in any way by saying this, but how can you be so certain that content supposely encrypted with MTProto when using Cloud Chat is only stored in plaintext on encrypted disks? Where is the proof of this?
No one can’t prove that Telegram use MTProto to encrypt content sent using Cloud Chat, stores them encrypted, and them decrypt them upon opening because the source code for MTProto is closed. So how can you prove that what you’re saying is the way they use?
Don’t get me wrong in any of this discussion. I don’t trust Telegram anymore. I don’t trust any closed sourced softwares anymore! But one can’t say “it is like this, not like that” without any proof.
