During tsunamis, take this very seriously and don’t go down to the beach. Don’t be looking at waves. Get yourself as high as you possibly can. 🥦🌳🌿
Good point, landlords should be 86’d not 69’d.
Yes, I will personally keep doing this because more community feedback is good imo. And no worries, I still think even this needs more than one workshop before a governance thread haha.
Keep in mind my post is vague because I am searching for feedback.
I mean, no offense, but it sounds like you want the fediverse to be your way or the highway.
I have yet to find an instance without rules that does not ban people, I could be wrong since I am not all-knowing. If someone does not like how the instance is run, they can switch instances and their new identity will not be banned unless there is a pretty egregious breaking of our rules afterwards, this has been suggested before. I am quoting our CoC which prohibits what I am talking about, I was thinking of expanding on it on what is acceptable behavior (my thoughts in this post, trying to nail this down instead of vibes based) vs what is acceptable ideology (current approach). It’s fine that you like to experience all that there is, but I think you have a misunderstanding here. We are not a free speech instance. If you disagree with me, you disagree with the CoC. And I don’t mean this like this is my petty fiefdom I rule over, I mean that is what our CoC says about racism, sexism, -phobes, and fash. If you still disagree, just remember to follow it on your account.
What is Unacceptable Degrading, disrespecting, or insulting another person or group of people, because of their :
Gender or Gender Identity,
Ethnicity,
Immigrant status,
Religion,
Sexuality,
Language,
Physical appearance or body size,
Substance or medicinal use,
Disability,
Age,
Acceptance of any unfavorable or disfavorable group, whether this group is political, economic, social, or cultural.
Authoritarianism, or the spread of behavior that is designed to overturn the standards described so far, such as attempts to advance, support, or aid any of the following :
Sexism,
Racism,
White Supremacy (or any ethnic-supremacy),
Homophobia (or any sexuality-phobia),
Fascism,
Genocide,
Drug-phobia,
Ethnic-, gender-, sexuality-, ableist-, etc., based slurs,
Oath-taking or pledge-taking.
However someone having genuine beliefs which upset you is not a troll. Someone having 100 alts is not a troll. Someone refusing to back down until they’re disengaged from, is not a troll. Someone not being polite, is not a troll
I can unpack this. So, while I think there are some stances that is a troll and meant to incite negativity, I also think think the way a person defends these stances can be seen as troll behavior. Some users need to chill. Instead of troll, I should use different words to describe the problematic behavior, so I will work on this. After some discussions, I may search for a different approach while trying to balance the risk of overreach, but I will leave this post up. I want to keep using this meta community before making any governance posts.
There is some missing context here in that this post is talking about multiple users (who either individually and/or collectively):
It seems the responses to this are divided between ban trolls so they do not scare people off the site or let users get trolled and decide for themselves to stay and block trolls or leave the site. Perhaps we can get block lists going?
I personally think trolling is if someone is saying stuff JUST to piss people off and ragebait
I don’t think what I do is trolling
We have legitimate trolls that piss people off and ragebait for fun, that is who I am talking about. But I also agree that if someone says something that they know upsets people and does it anyway, even after being told how their behavior affects others, they would be a troll to continue. For instance, I have not named names so they don’t get bullied for being called out and it is up to them if they want to come forward. I have lost count of the number of times I left lemmy because I didn’t want to deal with the negativity and inaction. I mean this second quote alone is something I’ve read too many times like copy-pasted lmao
thinking all opinions should be allowed
Yeah, no… I’m not into that at all. A place that welcomes all, including the intolerant, gets run by them. Why shouldn’t we try to cultivate a space where many people, even the ones society neglects, feel welcome and contribute to positively? I have too many parts of me that get attacked (woman, lgbt+, racial minority, etc.) for no real reason. We shouldn’t have sexists, racists, -phobes, and the fash. Period.

Omg you beat me to it, I loved the chao gardens in SA and SA2.
I think people who antagonize others for no real reason, lean into troll behaviour. And it is hard to enforce because currently we have to make a new rule for every troll type we run into.
People would point out “bait” posts and any trolling was always met with “Do not feed the trolls.”
I have been told it is “mean” when I do this. So I’ve gone back to just ignoring. It’s been a while since I fed a troll. The number of trolls have not gone down tho.
I do like having some sort of criteria for a troll. I have seen some trolls do what you listed but it gets turned back into something like: sealioning/concern trolling = genuine beliefs, pedantic = ASD. It makes getting a consensus hard.
Ordinarily I would say blocking is enough, but I have seen trolls get reported over and over, by different people, and there isn’t much that can be done. Those reports have to be ignored. I can also block one account on my side (unblocking to see reports by them and blocking again), but another account trolling very similarly will also start doing the same thing rinse and repeat. The reward continues to exist as long as there are multiple people to troll under each new account. If we let trolls say whatever they want and not moderate it, we wouldn’t have a need for any rules, admins, moderators, anything at all. It would be a free speech Nazi bar. I’ve actually read so much reprehensible shit on lemmy that I’m surprised you haven’t run into this.
Edit: I forgot to say for the “stop replying to me” this is because we have a disengage rule. If someone says “disengage” you have to stop. But, people will say some other variation instead and complain we didn’t moderate a disengage violation. I’ve also seen trolls like spam people, multiple comments per reply, and that gets hard to track for me to understand where/when the disengage happened.

Threativore is anti-vegan.

You actually got important details wrong here that no one has corrected you on and so you have continued spreading misinfo everywhere.
Luminous had also posted the FHF icon with a swastika on top to YPTB
Luminous drew the ties between Mr. Kaplan, the FHF, Nazis
This did not happen, that user was from a different instance seen here:

If you read the YPTB post, it mentioned 3 users. One user, luminous, was an AN admin, he banned Kaplan from an anarchy meme community (one he was a mod of, he was not banned from the entire AN instance as shown from Kaplan’s modlog screenshot) for zionism and this was taken as a death threat for some reason because luminous had added the murder zionists to his nick. This alone caused the defederation from AN (again, this was the proof Kaplan showed for why he defederated). While Kaplan could have talked to literally anyone on the team, it was decided to defederate and others were encouraged to defederate over death threats from ‘hostile admins’… that did not happen.
This drama was incredibly dumb, in that it could have been resolved with a chat, and the takeaway is not that anyone should agree with the LW team’s actions (lmao even), but that you should try talking before pushing the button. Luminous stepped down as admin days ago btw but you are only being told now that there was even a defederation and updated with refederation shortly after.

I wish, the textbooks I had to use had dicks drawn all over the pages.

The lounge just has things like a sofa, tv, a red light treatment thing, automatic massage table/chairs, stuff like that. It is completely avoidable. I’m a dummy who signed up for it for the automatic massage stuff, and it was usually broken/malfunctioning when I used it >.<

When I called they said I had to cancel by sending a letter.
I went through something similar while trying to cancel, only instead of a vacation it was somewhere I completely moved to that no longer had planet fitness. Going back and forward with the gym via phone and then letters went nowhere. I finally put a stop on my debit card to end things. I heard they go after people in court or collections at that point, but I was never contacted again about it.

It has been a hot minute for me, but I think the lower $10/month gave you access to everything but their stupid lounge reserved for the higher $20/month tier. You could cancel the $10 anytime but not the $20 tier without paying an extra buyout fee. Also looks like it was increased from $10 to $15 in 2024.
I moved to a place without planet fitness and it was hell cancelling the higher tier since they insisted you couldn’t cancel over the internet or phone, only via certified mail, and even then they kept losing my letter. The gyms around me start at $40/month so I do not go to the gym anymore.

Lemmy didn’t have much content at first so you would run out of things to read after a while. It felt friendly at first, but certain topics still set off people at lemmy to the point I thought about leaving. Then lemmy seemed to improve and I could talk about those topics again, but now there are more trolls (even ones that seem to follow you around since they troll each post or comment talking about something) and spam bots that weren’t there before. I think a lot of conflict on forums like this has to do with miscommunication, but sometimes people are just mean and there isn’t a fix.
While it is true that this is said to patients, ibuprofen is not enough pain relief. Insertion is often rated as extremely painful, but patients are told it is similar to a menstrual cramp. It was a 10 out of 10 for me, and that was with extra ibuprofen.
https://www.verywellhealth.com/iud-insertion-pain-control-cdc-guidance-8737789
Patients’ pain experiences during IUD insertions often do not align with what practitioners perceive that pain to be. One study shows that women rated their highest pain during a procedure at around 65 on a scale of 100, while providers estimated it at around 35—highlighting a deep-rooted disparity between patient experiences and provider perceptions.3
“Women are left in the dark about the reality of this procedure, and that needs to change,” Hart told Verywell. “For many of us, it’s not just mild pinching or cramps, and the first step is to bring this out of the shadows, validate women’s pain, and show them that there are options available to help them manage it.”

One letter off from greatness 😮💨

I get what you’re saying except I am the opposite. I used to do everything analog, but carrying and reading books became too painful. The school or public library used to be my favorite place. I used to draw a lot in analog too, but that became too painful. Nowadays if I want to read, it has to be digital or it won’t be comfortable and too painful. I like being able to resize text and easily search for things. I am also getting more into audiobooks or TTS. I hate when I am asked to write with a pencil and paper, my handwriting has become shit too.
