Tell me you didn’t read the articles without telling me you didn’t read the articles.
Tell me you didn’t read the articles without telling me you didn’t read the articles.
While on the one hand, that’s true and has always been true for journalism, if you’d read the articles you’d realize that the content of them does contain truth and informs.
Did you read the articles? There are no polar opposites here. You’d know this if you read the actual articles instead of going off the headlines.
I mean, both are true, they just cover different stats. You can still a large number of layoffs while still having large job growth. They also cover stats available on different days. Indeed, the second article notes that one of the stats in the first article was wrong. It also indicates that predicted stats for December and November were both underestimated. December and January were both underestimated by half. Also, the layoffs came in fields that are different than the ones that saw growth.
These articles are complimentary, not contradictory as you’d seem to indicate. Perhaps you’re just going off the titles and not actually reading the content?
It was never fine. There have been anti-abortionists demonstrating outside Planned Parenthood offices for decades. Planned Parenthood personnel have been harassed, assaulted, and murdered for decades. What changed was that the right, seeking a way to desperately maintain any relevance in a quickly liberalising political environment made deals to fight for the same people who we’d’ve labelled terrorists and criminals. At this same time a dumb ass named Bill Clinton removed the regulations that kept corporations from owning huge swathes of television stations. In addition, Murdoch started Fox News which was born with the only reason to be a propaganda arm of the conservatives. Oh, and then there was the rise of the radio talk show propagandists like Rush Limbaugh, may he suffer eternally in hell. All these worked together to push a more and more extremist conservatism on the masses. They made it seem okay to be hateful and spiteful and mean. They pushed the idea that intelligent people could not be trusted(unless they were conservative and they towed the conservative line). They pushed the idea that empathy was a weakness and that the only person you should care about was yourself.
It didn’t suddenly change, it has always been like this. The problem is the masses on the left tend towards being self absorbed dumbasses blind to what was going on around them - especially the white ones. The white ones thought everything was just fine and dandy because it was for them and they had that one black friend so they totally weren’t a racist. And racism was dead because of that, too. The Democrat Party has, for decades, been a disjointed mess led by people who are only vaguely competent to lead a room of kindergartners. There is one saying I’ve known for decades - “The Democratic Party is the only one who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.” In addition, hubris on the part of Ruth Bader Ginsberg kept her from retiring when Obama had a majority of Democrats in the Senate. So instead she wound up giving her seat to Trump to fill.
There are so many more things I could list, but won’t because I don’t want to spend all night going over what you’d get in a polisci course about the last 50 years of American politics. There is, however, one last thing I’ll touch on - that every time the Democrats have had a control of the Presidency and Congress, or even a veto proof majority, they never, ever took the time to legalize abortion. Consider that for a moment. This whole mess could have been avoided had the Democrats had the fortitude to do the right thing. They never did. They played just as much a game with women’s bodily autonomy as the GOP did. There’s no side that is innocent in this mess. I am not “both sides”-ing here. They’re both responsible for it in different ways - the Democrats because they valued their seats more than women’s autonomy and wrongly banked on RvW always being there and the Republicans who actively sought(and still seek in many states) to destroy women’s bodily autonomy not because they believe in it, but because it gets them votes.
It’s the same pretty much everywhere and anytime conservatives try to use violence. They think people will flock to their cause but don’t get that the vast majority of people, regardless of ideology, do not want to kill people and find murder reprehensible. This leads to these terrorists losing ground constantly and driving people who’d at least been uninterested in their worldview into being vehemently against it. Terrorism like this results in outcomes to the contrary of what the terrorists were trying to achieve.
Capitalism working as intended.
I’ll believe it when I see it. More likely that they’ll just not vote.
Don’t have a SD and haven’t really looked to hard into the experience. What are the SteamOS specific features you mention? As a gamer on Linux who is eventually looking to get a SD I’m curious.
To be fair, to an OF model it is. To any creator their content is because that’s how they make a living. While getting people back to the moon is great and all, making enough to eat for the next month will always take precedence to people. I mean, if it came to whether I would be able to eat or people walked on the moon again, well, fuck those astronauts, my belly is going to be full.
Why the hell would you sign a contract with a company that you know will only be available 6/7ths of the time?
Now people get angry if the game doesn’t have support with content updates for at least 3 years
I mean, have you seen the state game studios are releasing games in now? It’s like 3+ years of updates just to get it to the place it was supposed to be at release.
No thanks, I have an appointment to have splinters shoved under my nails.
I mean, even if you have a really short refractory period the streams tend to get less and less in volume.
That is a teensy-tiny problem compared to what has to be done to make a game like Starfield. Go look at the credits. Now understand that each of those teams had weeks or even months where they worked 60-80 hours to solve problems or design things or write or rewrite the story to fit a problem that the programmers can’t solve. Now, imagine putting all that work on one dev or even a tiny dev team. And now you know why the market isn’t flooded by indie dev games of this size and complexity. There is a reason why so many people involved in games burn out quickly - they are often ground down by the grueling work.
You are also conflating ability to do one thing really well with being able to do all things really well.
I can’t shake that it just looks like No Man’s Sky with a fantasy skin on it. I hope it’s better than that and is something new.
Is it me or does it seem like ARPGs are back to being all the rage? I’m not complaining - I love the genre - just observing.
Greed has always been the word. I don’t know where you get the idea that this is new. They have been trying for years to monetize modding.
If they find your coded diary, they are just going to torture you until you reveal how to decipher it if they have even a remote reason to suspect you. Everyone thinks they’re a tough guy until they’re waterboarded or they have their fingernails or teeth pulled out with a pair of channel locks. Everyone breaks under torture. The idea that someone can last until they’re killed is a Hollywood fantasy for action films.
The idea that governments are going to expend valuable resources like learned individuals or AI to crack some individual’s code is just Hollywood thinking. If you’re a suspect, the government will monitor you. If you do anything to make them up their suspicion, they will bring you in. They aren’t going to spend untold amounts of money deciphering every suspect’s diaries or writings. They’ll just torture it out of you, either physically(fastest) or mentally.
And let’s just put this out there - if some desperate person fingered you for being whatever, having anything written in code is as good as being guilty to them. You will not return to your previous life. At best you’ll be released and monitored till the government tires of you or it falls. The latter is no guarantee it will end. Just because the government might be replaced doesn’t mean that those taking over will view any more favorably. After all, if you were deemed to be a security threat before, what makes you think they won’t take that to heart. Once deemed a security threat you will always be a security threat, even to those who you may identify with.
