Seems to be a problem with Android 14. It’s already been reported on GitHub.

Maybe shake it repeatedly so that the gyroscope picks it up. 😄 Would be an inherent human response anyway.
The reason: 🫰
Every time I read “YouTube redesign” I hope for a proper Material You design (including adaptive colors). Instead it’s always just some menus shifting around.
The Pixel can also get the new Assistant At a Glance widget, although the permanent At a Glance widget still remains in place and unchanged.
What’s the point then? I don’t need the same widget twice.
YT Music’s podcast support is sorely lacking
I don’t have it yet in my region. Does YouTube Music support faster playback and the ability to skip silences? Those are the most important features to me.
I know it’s not really important but I prefer the design of the Podcasts app (Material You). YouTube Music is always completely black and clashes with the design of every other app made by Google. 🤷♂️
Tap “Explore” in the bottom toolbar, then the three dots next to “Subscribed”. Select “set as default”.
This phone looks weird. The 6 Pro looked awesome with the black visor. The 7 Pro looked elegant with the metal visor and gentle camera pills. But this one … has totally weird proportions. If the camera pill is so large, why not make it an entirely black visor again?
You’re in a bubble. ~99% of the population is not on reddit/lemmy or other android communities where they could discover new apps. They find out about new apps from friends, from news articles, or through the Play Store.
That’s why I’m always annoyed that pretty much all of the “big” YouTube phone reviewers spend so much time on the camera when reviewing phones. I’m much more interested in the UI/UX and software features.
The camera is either good or great anyway. That isn’t really a selling point for me.
It’s already there. Tap on the profile icon in the top left corner, then tap “remove ads”.
I think this solely refers to the “containers on a blurred background” style. They both do look somewhat similar (but not really identical).
Disable this setting:
Yes, the new one looks nice and clean. I think a bit of padding really helps to make it look modern. (yeah, I know this will ruffle some feathers because some people apparently prefer 0px padding on everything)
One thing that always irked me a bit about the old “comment reply” window is that it has a fixed division of the comment you’re replying to, and your own reply. Maybe a toggle would be nice? (and it would also be nice if that top window would also show the text from self-posts when I’m writing a top-level comment; that way we would be able to copy/quote from the selftext. IIRC on reddit it only worked when I was replying to a comment)
Thanks for your work! Using Sync here feels like coming home.
Sweet. Thank you!.
Are there plans to give the “comment reply” window a similar visual overhaul to the “create post” window?
Good news, everyone!
I think at the moment the only way to change it is to change the base font size.
I like the timely updates and I very much like the UI. Not just the Material You color scheme (which I initially thought was a useless gimmick but have come to really like) but the look in general. Everything is just so pleasantly designed. I know that people around here hate too much padding but I think that’s what makes the Pixel UI look so good. On other phones I always have the feeling that the padding isn’t right; for example, on many phones (especially Samsung) the text in the status bar isn’t center-aligned vertically and it drives me nuts. Or the text is squeezed into the corners.
On top of that there are useful features like Call Screening or Live Transcribe. And the voice typing is phenomenal.
So, they come to Samsung but not (officially) to older Pixels yet? Good job, Google.
