July and August vacation are the normal schools holidays. So it’s mostly families with kids who takes those months.

Other people would ideally try to avoid those months because they are packed and more expensive, so they are available to work.

But it will vary from jobs to jobs, maybe in some sectors business is slow so the company is closing and you are forced to be off, like it can happen around Christmas.

Same goes for lunch time, some of us have to sacrifice themselves to work because capitalism and rent to pay.

Entering the school is a bit annoying but you don’t need anything else besides having a brain and resisting stress. Not knowing if you will succeed is stressful but that goes for any school, and this one is paying you to attend it, not the other way around.

The workload is easy, I’m at the EU airways crossroads and working ATC is easy, I feel like I’m always on days off and I work less than 5h a day. Honestly it’s one of the best career you can do besides being rich and not working.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing that for more than a decade so it’s natural now.

And mostly, Europe isn’t FAA, I can’t tell for them but from what I’ve read it’s a shit show over there.

Seems better yes, in EASA airspace ATC is around 100k when starting your career and 220k near retirement.

I bet FAA is within those numbers.

In Switzerland that’s less than a rent in “large cities”.

For the cantons (regions) that have a minimum wage, this minimum is at 4000 and while possible, living at 4000/months in Geneva or Zurich is considered poverty. You can do it but it’s a constant fight to find low prices and save money, it’s survival, not living.

My highest degree is from the aviation school so it’s kinda useless outside of aviation.

Same for my pilots friends, none of them went to university/college but rather straight to flying school after the mandatory diploma you pass at around eighteen (Baccalauréat in France).

It is great but the downside is that if we want to change careers we can only become business owners (aka, create our own jobs) because nobody wants us and we don’t accept their “real world” shitty work conditions.

Like getting your driving licence converted to a Swiss one, renewing your passport and stuff like that.

The baseline is that you pay for it but it is done in a minute (driving licence you get it the same day you go to the automobile office, you just wait 30 minutes max and they give it to you. Passport is something like during the week. Not 2 month, one week.)

This kind of efficiency. And don’t worry the workers in those administrations are not overworked at all^^

In the private sector it is somewhat the same, nobody is being pressured for efficiency, you just do you work professionally and that’s enough. Some companies might pressure their staff (because the boss is dumb?) but then they will have a high turnover and might fail in the long run.
