We (French speaking peoples) have several instances, the one I’m writing from is probably the most active on lemmy, the others are on piefed.
I’d say if you see a lot of them it’s probably because of your language settings or because of those German instance settings.
I had to block several of their communities as I don’t have German selected in my languages but they still show on all (and in German, not English posts hosted on a German instance), so they were just badly setup. Maybe it changed tho, I haven’t updated my blacklist in a while.

Yeah yeah, that one episode with the fire ants (S01E05) and the other one with the fast aging scientist (S03E11) gave me nightmares as a kid.

In very active and populated servers I can see that becoming a problem yes.
I generally use the “combined view” so I see every threads at the same time and reply in the correct one automatically.
How?
I manage two Zulip servers so I’m interested of knowing how it is perceived by outsiders.
To me (to us) it is quite simple, you write in the topic with the correct title, fediverse stuff goes in fediverse stuff, video games in video games, etc etc.
If someone makes a mistake, any user on a PC can move the message to the correct topic (doesn’t work with the mobile app).

I have a better job with low hours for more money but still have to be cautious about costs. They have several houses with a garden that I can only dream about.
They have a retirement plan that I can only dream about and an happy life while I’m ok-ish but depressive.
But I have 10Gbs fiber optic internet and a NAS+Seedbox so there’s that.
I went to the store with an objective, resist my urge for chocolate.
I did not realize we are after valentine day, it was packed with heart shaped chocolate at -50% next to huge chocolate bunnies cause it is somewhat already Easter?
Oh well, maybe I’ll resist better next time 🤷🏻♂️

If you still want to see news sometime, just subscribe to everything silly you want to see and only scroll on your home (subscribed) feed.
Don’t go on all unless you want to doom.
Or use piefed with the same strategy but use the dedicated feeds to sometimes explore news or other subjects.

Tipiak is a kinda slang way of saying pirate. It comes from an old tv ad from a food company named Tipiak. 3 old grandma screamed “pirate !” after discovering that the food tastes the same as their own secret family recipe (supposedly). It became sort of a meme and is used to say pirate. As the French language is not difficult enough for our English neighbours, we started to conjugate the word: Ce soir je vais tipiaker ce film (tonight I’m going to pirate (download) that film).
The same word is used in the answer from @[email protected] with even a new variant: Tipiakeries (pirate thingy)

It’s funny I’ve been hearing about this sound indicator a lot but never managed to hear it myself.
I’m around 100h in the endgame, level 99 with all pictos, weapons and stuff but never managed that sound indicator.
I parry using visual references. Sometimes having to look a bit at the larger scene, having the action in my peripheral vision for some bosses. It worked perfectly until now but one day I shall try to hear that sound indicator…

Sometimes people are saying their next age, ‘je vais sur mes quinze ans’ (I am going to my 15 years).

Officially it is Meta. Facebook is owned by Meta but the Quest headset is not a Facebook product. I get it, it’s easier to say Facebook for everything owned by Zuk, like saying Google for Youtube instead of Alphabet.

And TBH, I think all VR headset are kinda ugly, it’s either big rectangle brick on your head or big round brick on your head.
I work in ATC and we have several desks with around 12 to 18 screens. Not in that layout tho, but on a much larger banana form.
They are used at different support positions so not ATC radars. Mostly for monitoring but also used with keyboard and mouse.
The applications goes from technical surveillance of ops systems, to flow capacity (airspace capacity), meteo broadcast for all airports (ATIS) or ground-ground telecommunications of aeronautical data.
