I’ve learned that working very closely with someone, night after night, does not mean that they can be trusted. I’m not talking about money. The sobering realization that everyone knew about the rumor, and no one said anything. No one had my back. And I think Team Lead was the originator.

You may see the same cast of characters, day in and out, but you don’t know the actors. It’s best to work with that in mind.

That said, a coworker invited me over to dinner just the other day. So that rule is obviously not an absolute. Since the rumor, though, this is how I approach things.

The server at Denny’s does the same if not more work than a server at a high end place. I’ll toss like $10 their way, but only because I used to do it, and know that it sucks. These are people that write down what you want, and then bring it to you. Oh, and they’ll grab you another beer. How is that worth a percentage of my bill?

I’d leave. They don’t need my business.

PhotoPea works pretty well for me, though I am not using it for anything other than fun projects.

Worked at a shipping and printing store, on campus. The area keeps being developed, so there are architects who get plans printed and such. One of the clients we had usually sent the nicest people in to pick up his father’s company’s print orders.

One day, Junior came in to pick up some bound presentations. You see, his aura was one of importance and power. So when I could not link the order to the account immediately, he busted out a “Don’t you know who I am?”

I looked at him and gave him an apathetic No. I knew exactly who he was, because he dodged my calls when I would have to call him to collect payment for his father’s company. One day, he answered and yelled at me. So yeah, I knew who he was.

We figured it out together at the end. I’d like to say after the journey we had become friends, but…he was the biggest dickhead in the world. So no.
