  • Assuming it’s real, I think it would have to be as chimera. I don’t even think an extra chromosome would explain this. I’m oversimplifying a little, but the genetics when it comes to the black/brown coloration is either “tabby” or “not tabby”, and “tabby” is dominant, so as long as it received one copy of “tabby”, every part of the coat that isn’t white should be tabby.

  • I mostly hung out with some of the “weird” kids. I think it was 5th or 6th grade when I decided that I wanted to hang out with the popular kids, and I guess I managed to succeed, because a year or two later, one of my classmates told me how popular I had been. I never felt popular though, and the time I spent trying to be popular was just constant stress because almost everyone else in that group is also worried about being accepted.

  • Yeah, as far as I’m aware (and I spend way too much time reading about cat coat genetics), that combination of colors could only happen in a cat with 2 unique sets of DNA. I would still call that a tortie, though.

That blue eye though, I don’t know enough about eye color genetics to confidently say, but the other features of the cat look like a Maine Coon, so it is possible that this cat came from a breder and there was intentional selection for eye color.

  • I also used to let my cat hide in the back seat until someone reminded me that if the vehicle has to stop suddenly or is involved in a collision, the cat could go flying. It’s much safer for them and for you for them to be in a carrier, and the carrier buckled in, or at least wedged in somewhere.
