Piracy@lemmy.ml•Kindle rhymes with Swindle: Being a relatively brief description of my odyssey of getting a short text I purchased from amazon to my phone to my laptop . . .English
6·3 months agoYears ago I had found a neat Windows software for this. You could just log in with your Amazon credentials and remove the DRMs on the books in your account. They could then be converted into pdfs with an other program.
I was doing this for my wife, and when she needed an other one of her books in pdf format she would ask me to “pirate” it. It pissed me off “it’s yours, it’s not piracy, it’s file conversion !!” How the industry managed to actually get people to accept the stuff they buy isn’t theirs :(

It’s funny that in Europe, our passports have been biometric for a long time, governments have our fingerprints, but the security at my base doesn’t use it, airport workers and Cabin Crews just have their own security gate
(I’m a Cabin Crew based in Vienna, Austria)

17·3 months agoIdk, in Hungary no-one uses a VPN, as neither studios nor institutions really care about piracy there

You can entirely be for-profit and earn your profit without the reselling of personal data. It was more common before net 2.0, for example Google first served you one or two links of ads based on your search. No saving and forwarding user data, just simply “for X amount, your webpage will be displayed to users searching Y keyword”
