I didn’t know there was drama behind the later lineup. What happened?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Sight reading musicians of Lemmy, do you hear the notes in your head as you read?
4·17 days agoFun fact: you know how you can maintain a conversation while listening to music, but it’s awful hard to do so while reading text? Well, musicians trained to do so can read a music sheet while talking because “reading music” triggers the same brain bit that is used to process music, so they’re effectively “listening” to the music while talking.
Also, I’ve heard 3 different orchestra conductors say that no orchestra performs better, no matter the piece, than the one in their minds.
There really is one for everything huh
I know you’re thinking about the classic RPG experience, but your description very accurately describes being in the army lol. Makes me think about what the NPCs’ perspective is about the hero’s hijinks. Maybe I’ve now matured enough that I can finally feel bad about abusing Nazeem?
I… guess? It’s kinda amusing seeing a meme where the punchline involves socialism, and it being so mild and innocent. Such neutrality is somewhat refreshing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's that thing the internet insists you be outraged about but you just can't bring yourself to care?
5·1 month agoThe M4’s Hobbit version has vastly improved my opinion of the Hobbit movie(s). I now include it in my yearly LOTR marathon.

5·1 month agoAre these the same dude from the Banshees of Inisherin? I’d love to see more of these two together.
EDIT: Just saw in another comment this is In Bruges, and it’s indeed the same two actors.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You find yourself teleported onto the stage of a TED talk right NOW with a large audience. What topic do you speak about?
3·1 month agoI’d love to watch a Ted on that, sounds meta interesting. I tried searching for something on the subject on YT but only found grammar/language-oriented videos. The identity construction molding the culture due to their language structure sounds like an amazing rabbit hole to learn about.
I honestly hate this kind of “deals”. I only want one pencil, and don’t really want to hoard just because of a “good deal”, so I end up just buying below the deal amount and getting weird looks by the cashier. “But for an extra $5 you get two more products!” I know, I don’t care. I value more the peace of mind that comes form having an uncluttered space.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is with the pro-AI posts lately?
65·4 months agoI’ve seen that some anti-AI folks get very irrationally angry when you don’t share their hate towards AI. It often degenerates into personal attacks, as in “how could you be so stupid as to not share my views?”, which translates into the knee-jerk reactions you mention. There’s no searching for nuance.
For the articulated response, I agree with you though. I’ll copy a comment from another thread that I think shines a really valuable light on the issue:
Most arguments people make against AI are in my opinion actually arguments against capitalism. Honestly, I agree with all of them, too. Ecological impact? A result of the extractive logic of capitalism. Stagnant wages, unemployment, and economic dismay for regular working people? Gains from AI being extracted by the wealthy elite. The fear shouldn’t be in the technology itself, but in the system that puts profit at all costs over people.Data theft? Data should be a public good where authors are guaranteed a dignified life (decoupled from the sale of their labor).Enshittification, AI overview being shoved down all our throats? Tactics used to maximize profits tricking us into believing AI products are useful.
This is great! Thanks for sharing.
That’s me. But it’s probably not generational: the meme and the stuff you mention sound US-specific.
But the F in FOSS stands for free. I understand that there’s a lot more to unpack in the OS part of FOSS, but still, it’s not quite wrong.
Well I agree that CRANKING MY MISTER BOOPSY has a certain ring to it
