  • The direction Windows 11 is taking is terrible but i’ve tried on multiple occasions (even this morning!) to game and consume my content on Ubuntu or Fedora and i run into so much trouble, that ill have to stick with Windows 11. I have been using Ubuntu at work for the last 10 years though as web development is great on it.

    Issues i have:

    • Lutris not finding GoG games
    • Heroic working, but not being able to sync savegames for GoG
    • Having installed GoG with Bottles and then the game itself works, but my framerate wasn’t that great
    • Nvidia driver getting borked after kernel update, need to switch to old kernel, uninstall, switch to new kernel, reinstall
    • Mangohud flatpak not working together with Goverlay repo version
    • Need alternative for Synology cloud sync. Maybe Syncthing or rsync with SMB
    • And i need alternatives for fps limiting, undervolting and cpu undervolting. Haven’t put enough time into it yet though
    • I like the mouse acceleration on Windows and in KDE both flat and adaptive feel pretty flat. Probably can be tweaked with xinput or something, but you can’t configure the acceleration amount by default

Maybe one day, but for now Windows is probably just the better choice for me and gaming (on a laptop). At least in Windows 11 they now allow you to not group the taskbar by default…

  • I currently own a S23+ and had a OnePlus 6T before that and Nexus 5X before that. I wouldn’t be bothered by the Samsung bloat. You can uninstall nearly everything. Set the default apps you want to use and hide the rest. You have this configured quickly and then you will never be bothered by it again.

The default Pixel 8 launcher doesnt even allow you to remove the huge Google search widget, which bothers me a lot more. I find One UI pretty vanilla feeling to be honest. Don’t notice that much difference from my OnePlus 6T which had a fairly vanilla OS.

Its really immersive/atmospheric and plays pretty good on PC. Not sure yet if i like it more than Deep Rock Galactic, but ill have to give it some more time. It has the same gameplay loop as DRG, but is more tactical. It’s either way a good coop game especially considering it just launched! Theres some startup issues with connections getting lost etc, but those will get resolved within a week i think. Theres some MTX in there which i don’t like but it’s easy to ignore without missing out on things. I wouldn’t let that deter you.

Bought it on greenmangaming for 33 EUR which is more reasonable than 40 EUR in my opinion

  • X4: Foundations. Just started a new playthrough with the Kingdom End DLC.

Its the closest to Eve online, except being offline, singleplayer, pausable and moddable. It supports many playstyles and can also be played semi afk, which i like. At times it can be incredibly frustrating because the UI is complex and the AI of your fleet members can be very stupid.

Still i enjoy just doing my thing, playing for a bit, save and continue later. Not a lot of games support this. Others that do for me are Factorio/DSP and Drox Operative 2

  • It’s pretty fun but also very hard, maybe too hard for me. De gameplay is battlefield like with call of duty pacing to me. Theres quite a lot of maps with good variety. Some maps are more sandboxy and open. Others more urban like or with more choke points. At the end of the game you can vote for the next map, but usually the same ones get voted over and over. The gunplay is good and has depth.

I will keep playing it, but mix it up with Deep Rock Galactic for some more relaxed sessions
