Also, search is weird on Lemmy. If no one on your instance has looked up the specific community then you won’t find it in search. The entire url has to be searched by someone on your instance before it will show up in a keyword search. Part of the growing pains of Lemmy and a big reason why there are several duplicate communities across instances.
If you make a comment or post on that community I’ll make you a mod.
I also do have a Miami community on the sports-focused instance that I am a part of. Feel free to crosspost over there as well (or I can make you a mod there too if you want).
I miss banana plant guy already. Gone too soon.
What I’ve been doing just to try and grow sports discussion on Lemmy as a whole is crossposting any of our posts into a corresponding community on a different instance and vice versa. Example, I’ve crossposted the Giants schedule from [email protected] into our NY Giants community. I’m not hoping for any particular community to be the premier community for a sport/team, I just want to increase the chances that new users can find a community that gets them the content that they are looking for. We have gotten several users from other instances in the past few days so I think the concept is working!
I joined Reddit to follow college football, and I’m hoping to help grow Lemmy enough to have quality discussions here as well.
I don’t know if you would be interested, but the instance that I am on is focused on general sports discussion and has an NBA Community (albeit inactive at the moment). Feel free to crosspost some NBA/Pacers stuff over there and maybe we can boost some basketball conversation. Good luck with growing your community!
Ironically, I’m part of a sports-only instance. I’m not sure if you can block an instance as a user, but hopefully one day we can emerge as a predominant sports instance and you can just block us, thereby eliminating most sports-related posts from your feed. Good luck with this issue, and sorry in advance for all the individual sport/team posts you will see from us in the future.
