AI enables me to do stuff at a quality level I couldn’t reach myself even if training the skill would be fun. And for driving that means I could get more freedom of movement without being able to drive.

Arx Fatalis with the stealth and lighting of The Dark Mod, modern graphics fidelity with physics-based rendering, and the areas of the different races are believably expansive (so I can somewhat believe that they might actually work). I also want moar physics, crafting, and magic because these systems were genuinely great implementations rarely seen in other games.

Arx Fatalis is a great game. But a bigger team with a higher budget could just have made more game with a bigger world but the same content density. And it’s an old game from before physics based rendering was common.

They did impressive detail work back then. Today, they wouldn’t be limited by the hardware. If it’s still an underground stack of colonies organized in layers like they did back then for performance reasons, there would basically be no performance constraints today. The loading screens between levels would be gone. I could actually take the stairs.

You can’t ever guarantee that a neural network isn’t dreaming of digital sheep - neither for an artificial nor a natural one.

They probably let it just eat the internet without any humans looking at the training data. And yeah - there probably is some CSAM somewhere on the internet. Maybe, they used an agent swarm to specifically search for stuff not yet in the dataset and forgot to a blocklist. It’s not like the tech bros are genuinely careful in what they do. Recklessness seems to be a common trait.

Usually, they are rebranding after a revolution with the goal to establish a democratic or communist government. But then the inherent weakness of those forms of government leads to internal instability due to outside influence and/or internal corruption. The new and unexperienced government gets more and more extreme in an attempt to defend or due to simple greed. The original idea becomes more and more distant until not even a faint shadow of it is left.

Don’t just look at the company profits. After Musk bought Twitter, Trump won and Musk gained direct access to the government. I think, that’s a pretty good return on the investment.
But most importantly: Elon now has his own big media company. No longer are the other rich guys ridiculing him because he doesn’t have his own media empire. He’s now a real full member in the club.

The boycott was about something, normal users don’t give any fucks about: Third party apps basically exclusively used by moderators to automate banning and censoring.
Users were also already pissed about being banned from subs based on which other subs they are in.
And the boycott was mostly experienced by users as moderators closing down subs without caring at all about what the actual users think about that. Sub mods in general already had a reputation as being narcistic and unreasonable to the point that they there and still are used as a meme.
So naturally, user sympathy was rather limited.

In addition to lack of user sympathy, Reddit was never actually at risk of being replaced by anything else. Where would the users go to?
Lemmy and others are the niche’s niche; I still add Reddit (not Lemmy) to my web searches because that’s still where the content is. Reddit is massive and for most topics there just is nowhere else to go to. The network effect is real; size actually does matter a lot. It’s the same reason, YouTube can get away with their enshittification.

Yes. With AI-using indie devs it’s really just like with YouTube woodworkers who use a Festool Domino for their joinery. As long as they aren’t actually sponsored by Festool in any way, they can still be independent.

If people can detect it as AI it shouldn’t have passed the quality check. People will happily buy games from the most awful and immoral companies if they like the game.
Those indies don’t get canceled for using AI - they get canceled for a lack of quality control.
