I can technically swim, but I can’t open my eyes under water, so it’s not safe to attempt swimming. Now I’m just grossed out by the ick in lakes and swimming pools, and I can’t handle the heat anymore either, so I’ll probably never swim again

From your op and comments it sounds like you’re doing great and he’s adjusting faster than usual for a cat. It’s good you’re giving him some space today too - he might have been rained on a lot when he lived outside and just want a safe space inside without playing too much

I understand the taking responsibility part, but I think you can spare a little blame for the companies who sold those products knowing full well how addictive and dangerous they are.
