I don’t think it’s realistic or pragmatic to expect a perfect direct democracy system. Trying to get as close to one as feasibly possible can be a goal though, and once we’re at that point, try to continually and slowly improve that direct democracy system until it’s even closer and closer and closer, ad infinitum.

They may know everything about you right now. But they don’t know about your future self, how you can change, how you may be an entirely different person in as little as a year. Data is useful, but it is more useful the more updated and recent it is.

That’s the thing, I think they’re all just regular people with more radical views on politics. I feel as if this recent fad of “dead internet theory” which posits the majority of the net is filled with bots, is really an attempts by certain groups to dismiss certain online communities/dismiss the idea that these communities are indicative of some sort of wider trend within society, which is really what I think is an attempts to gain control of what is seen as consensus reality online, dehumanize the other side, and justify the suppression/repression of certain ideas, opinions, and groups.

If you’re claiming they are bots, I don’t think that’s the case. Judging from the little threads I’ve been reading throughout this post, it seems as if Lemmy was created by some diaspora of Marxists from reddit after reddit banned their stuff. If this is true, you’re not interacting with bots, you would be interacting with actual Marxists. People.

Maybe one day instead of [Insert Search Query] Reddit, it will instead be [Insert Search Query] Lemmy

Edit Addendum: Might be cool if people got their old tech support posts from reddit, ask the question that was asked in a post, and then answer their own post with the answer that they gave that solved the issue.

I think a good compromise is to allow for sale for a period of years, and then when it’s no longer making as much profits, for a creator to give permission for it to be ok to be pirated, which basically means that they’ve sorta kinda maybe ceded legal consequences to pirating their work.

It won’t change antivaxxer minds, but it probably would prevent those who would be affected by their rhetoric, woo, and misinformation. Those who are on the precipice of going antivax or full antivax. I’ve learned that you can’t just think about changing the minds of those who you are talking to, because you probably can’t change their minds, but you do have to worry about convincing people who are listening into that conversation.

Disproving them can work if they are debunked by dedicated people. Education can work. It’s just foolhardy to try to debunk them if you aren’t some YouTuber who’s dedicated to constantly debating and debunking these type of people. If you constantly educate people on why this stuff is wrong, less people may fall into this stuff in the first place, prevention is a necessary and doable thing.

Even if that were the case, couldn’t the Chinese government just covertly get one of their companies to buy any such data from companies like Meta and Google anyways, and then request it from one of their own firms if they wanted to? Tiktok just makes it so that the Chinese government can (if they were harvesting American data) acquire it for free.
