AI peaked a while ago IMO, the nail in the coffin for me was Microsoft making deals for nuclear power plants to power their data centers for ML and AI. It’s great they’re using nuclear power since it’s at least a clean source of energy, but it’s also extremely telling of the limitations and power requirements for these languages models. Without some kind of power reduction breakthrough, AI will continue to stall while these companies think of new ways to sell snake oil and gimmicks.

It’s irresponsible because making it sound like it’s true AI when it’s not is going to make it difficult to pull the plug when things go wrong and you’ll have the debate of whether it’s sentient or not and if it’s humane to kill it like a pet or a criminal. It’s more akin to using rainbow tables to help crack passwords and claiming your software is super powerful when in reality it’s nothing without the tables. (Very very rudimentary example that’s not supposed to be taken at face value).

It’s dangerous because talking about AI like it’s a reasoning/thinking thing is just not true, and we’re already seeing the big AI overlords try to justify how they created it with copyrighted material, which means the arguments over copyrighted material are being made and we’ll soon see those companies claim that it’s no different than a child looking up something on Google. It’s irresponsible because it screws over creative people and copyright holders that genuinely made a product or piece of art or book or something in their own free time and now it’s been ripped away to be used to create something else that will eventually push those copyright holders out.

The AI market is moving faster than the world is capable of keeping up with it, and that is a dangerous precedent to set for the future of this market. And for the record I don’t think we’re dealing with early generations of skynet or anything like that, we’re dealing with tools that have the capability to create economical collapse on a scale we’ve never seen, and if we don’t lay the ground rules now, then we will be in trouble.

Edit: A great example of this is https://v0.dev/chat it has the potential to put front end developers out of work and jobless. It’s simple now but give it time and it has the potential to create a frontend that rivals the best UX designs if the prompt is right.

OpenAI doesn’t want you to know that though, they want their work to show progress so they get more investor money. It’s pretty fucking disgusting and dangerous to call this tech any form of artificial intelligence. The homogeneous naming conventions to make this tech sound human is also dangerous and irresponsible.

Does it improve the bandwidth so higher quality codecs can be used without having to switch between good quality sound and shitty mics to shitty sound and good mics? I mean seriously, we’re in 2024 and we still can’t have quality parity with a wired headset when using Bluetooth because the bandwidth sucks so much ass that better codecs just can’t be used. Bluetooth can die in a fucking fire.

That’s odd, I installed the Gemini app on my 6a like a week ago. Unless you’re specifically talking about grapheneOS.

The big problem I’ve seen with it so far is that bots on your own team won’t push the objectives and there’s no easy way to direct them. I had a match that lasted almost an hour with no end in sight because both sides of bots were pushing then retreating constantly. It was just a giant tug of war. Now I’m sure it’s much different in real matches, but I prefer warming up with bots.

So are they going to reassess the capability of kernel level drivers like crowdstrike and anticheat solutions like vanguard? Because of they keep this capability open then they’re just asking for another fuck up.

For those who want to escape this bullshit, Linux welcomed you with open arms and gives you control of your PC. Microsoft doesn’t respect you, ditch them and move to something that will.

Linux mint exists, switch and never look back. They just released version 22 and it’s probably the best version of mint I’ve ever used. Switch to mint and use flatpaks instead.

That’s never going to happen. I’m not sure on what stipulates a monopoly in this scenario, but the fact that there’s bing, duck duck go, kagi, and a handful of others means it’s not really a monopoly which tells me there is some specific ruling here that they’ve determined is monopolistic behavior.

The one thing 343i did well with infinite was the multiplayer, same with halo 5, the mp was just really good. The story in both was completely ridiculous and in some cases borderline incoherent without knowledge of the books.

What I really have wanted for a while are games in the halo universe focusing on other characters and fleshing out what the universe has become post-human/covenant war. For instance, a game featuring Rian Forge and her crew with a mass effect style of gameplay would be awesome, and star wars outlaws is close to that style but ya know, Ubisoft.

Or a game focusing on the Spartan 3’s from ghosts of onyx. That would be a really awesome game, and could flesh out more lore with the forerunner that we simply haven’t had before. There’s also the human/forerunner war from the forerunner trilogy. So much lore is there, they just don’t use it and it eventually kills the games.

My main issue with mint has always been the reluctance to use a newer package base. Fortunately I think that’s changing since they’re adopting Wayland support and have their edge iso now. Currently running bazzite and it’s pretty rock solid with a couple quirks, but I’ve always thought about going back to mint when they start updating their package base.

A word of caution, I’ve done this over a dozen times today and I did have one server where the bootloader was wiped after I attached it to another EC2. Always make a snapshot before doing the work just in case.

Last time I tried to play this game I had to use a 7+ year old fix on their forums for memory management and change the page file to a stupidly massive size to keep it from crashing. Of course the neckbeard star citizen fanboys in game told me to “just buy more ram”. Bitch, I already have 16GB of fucking fast ram I’m not trying to build a quantum computer for my star citizen fix!

I’ve looked at revolt and well, when I tried using it it was filled with less than reputable individuals. I don’t remember specifics but I remember noping the fuck off revolt real quick. If you want text chat, try matrix, if you want voice well, then idk what to say other than discord, team speak or guilded. Guilded is pretty cool, I actually like the client way better than discord but my friends all use discord and guilded isn’t a huge platform. It is backed by the Roblox company so you at least know it’s gonna be supported, but then again, it’s the Roblox company…

It doesn’t need to go back to any era, it just needs to be good. I swear the Bioware hatred over the years could be some kind of case study for the mentally unstable. Everyone got butt-hurt over mass effect 3 and never let Bioware live it down.

They’ve made one absolute shit game in Anthem, and yes I like Andromeda and love inquisition, and all of a sudden they’re the worst company alive. Bungie has had more fuck ups than Bioware and they get a pass every time.

Blizzard literally harasses women to the point of taking their own lives and they get a pass because “muh WoW is too valuable!”. Still pissed no one is in jail for that bullshit, that woman’s family needs some form of justice and it won’t ever happen.

Who cares if it’s not like baldurs gate 3? If it’s good then just enjoy the damn game, that’s what it is, a video game.

To be fair, if it weren’t for pillars of eternity obsidian wouldn’t be around today. It’s a well known fact they’ve been in the situation of facing a studio closure multiple times. Fergus is well accustomed to these closures from all the way back at black Isle studios and interplay. I would imagine Microsoft is a much more reliable safety net than interplay every was.

This is why every PC should at the very least have a dual boot config these days with a Linux distro. Ubuntu, fedora, mint, pop, mx, it doesn’t matter, take back your PC and have some kind of fallback in case Microsoft fucks your shit up, even Steve from gamers Nexus is considering ditching Windows for their office computers.
