In addition to this not really being a showerthought, this post is not really a shitpost either

I am a guy from southern germany. I like scouting, trains and computers. Politically, I would consider myself as a democratic socialist.
(For anyone wondering, yes this is from the same guy, as [email protected])

29·9 days agoWhat I found much more interesting than the new subscription, was all their weird obsessive behaviours the author described, which seem to almost normalized in her mind.
Like memorizing all the followers of your ex and checking regularly if they have new ones, to see if they have a new relationship. Or checking, if your exes look at your stories.
I am very glad, I am not involved with social media (and most of my friends as well), because it seems to exadurate your worst impulses in a way, that I would have never thought could be normalized in our society.

13·12 days agoNah, people were always spied on. The internet actually made it possible (if you know what you are doing) to communicate safely under authoritarian regimes or if you are under investigation by the government, even across borders.
That was not really feasible in the Soviet Union etc.

161·26 days agoEy, it’s fine to use Windows, no need to insult Linux people though.
You can do some really cool shit with Linux, when it comes to ricing etc. You don’t have to like it, but it can be a really cool hobby.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Real-Debrid’s Renewed Piracy Crackdown Follows Corporate RestructuringEnglish
9·2 months agoThe main reason in this case, is because I live in Germany, so I’ll be fucking executed, if I get caught pirating.
I already payed a thousand euros a few years ago when I was caught seedimg “Her” (I forgot to turn on my VPN). That’s when I decided to never do anything risky again, so I got a debrid service. That’s fine, because no actual seeding is now happening through my ip.

Opensource@programming.dev•Your Google Android device is about to stop being yoursEnglish
9·2 months agoI’d probably recommend something with GrapheneOS as it’s pretty easy to install and use. I personally use it as well and never had any issues with it. You might want to look if your Banking apps work, but other than that, you can pretty much install most major apps through Aurora (like WhatsApp, Signal etc.)
If you want to go fully open, you could also try buying a Fairphone 4 and installing PostmarketOS on it, as I see PostmarketOS as the long-term ideal future OS for phones, because it frees us from the shackles of phone update cycles and gives the user full control over their OS (including changing the desktop environment).
But if you want to use PostmarketOS you have to be willing to tinker and not everything will work perfectly. Especially the camera will not be perfectly supported, even on the well supported Fairphone 4, your pictures will look worse than the ones you could take on Android, because there aren’t good drivers and post processing yet. But it can be really cool if you are an enthusiast.

8·2 months agoYeah, noticed that a few days ago, most of the stuff I watched on streamio was gone.
Luckily, my subscription runs out in like 45 days anyways, so I just switched to Torbox. Works pretty well and is at a similar price. Too bad for the 4€ I wasted, but what can you do I guess

They aren’t nearly as unsafe as people think they are and I think they are completely fine.
BUT it still doesn’t make sense to build them, because renewables (especially solar) is so much cheaper, so we should focus all our energy on expanding that instead of nuclear.
