Browsers shouldn’t allow half of the stuff that they allow. You have to do the same thing not just with copy and paste, but also searching on the page with ctrl + f. Like I don’t care that websites won’t to create their own experience. Don’t mess with browser behavior.
I have people whom I still need to explain copy and paste to on a regular basis. Trust me, I understand.
To summarize what I was telling another person. The number of people who care are far outnumbered by the number of people who don’t. It doesn’t matter if you or I or all 10,000 (just a random number for the sake of argument) of the people subscribed to a sub like this were to cancel when r/justworks or r/normie (made up subreddits for the sake of argument) has 100,000,000 who don’t give a damn about computers, privacy, or anything else beyond the service working or not.
I know you weren’t using the number 5 as a hard example, but a thing that people still don’t seem to realize is that the people in threads like this are the people that actually care. Even if the few thousand redditors who subscribe to a subreddit where they discussed that topic were to all (and I mean 100% of them) cancel there subscriptions. That is still only a drop in the bucket for Netflix. Losing a few thousand subscribers is still nothing if they made more money with the addition of ads.
I don’t think this commenter is refuting that fact, but simply doesn’t believe that businesses are going to pass off any savings to the consumer. Many of them will simply pocket the savings.
The way permissions are listed on mobile operating these days is honestly pretty misleading.
For example, I know some apps that need to request network permission even though they don’t need to connect to the internet. Not because they want to do anything shady, but because they legitably have to in order to get certain info.
Not to mention the problem of listing everything an app can do as if it is doing all of those things.
I wouldn’t say no issues, but nothing like what some people are complaining about. I only have one major issue in my opinion.
Well, the PDF format was created by Adobe and even though they somehow got it to technically be considered an open document format. They are to my knowledge still the only entity with a complete implementation in existence. Just some food for thought.
Exactly. I have used quite a few products and my thoughts have been. That’s cool, but when would I ever need this? The few useful usecases I have for it could use a small local model for very specific purposes and that’s it. Not make them billions of dollars level of usefulness.
I think we need uncompromising people in this world. Doesn’t mean we have to listen or follow everything they say though. Those are my thoughts on GNU.

My only problem with Signal is the inability to manually sync conversations. Even if I have backups from my phone. They can’t be used on the desktop. I have seen some third party tools, but even those state that they might not work.
There are real issues with Mozilla, but most of these people are complaining about nothing. Constantly whining about every little thing to the point you would think they are saying they are worse than Google.
Purchasing my first home, apparently all info regarding the sale is public information. Companies scrape or buy this data and then spam your mailbox with various extra services. In my case, it was mortgage premium insurance or something like that. Anyways, the letter I received in the mail went something like this: “You forgot something important regarding your home purchase”. I don’t remember the exact words, but it was something like that.
I’m a first time home buyer and I am trying to stay on top of things. Of course, because they are able to get all the information regarding the sale. It looks legit, they have my name, address, loan number, loan amount, the bank serving the loan and everything. I call to make sure everything is alright and fortunately they didn’t answer. I took the extra time to look up what mortgage premium insurance even was and that is how I came across the fact that it may be a scam.
Anyways, they call me back eventually and by this time I am on to them. I ask some questions regarding their company and the entire time they keep repeating the name of the bank that is serving my loan, but refuse to give me the name of their company. After a bit more back and forth they finally let it slip that they are from some unrelated insurance company to which I decline their offer. I wanted to curse them out, but I just wasn’t raised that way.
Edit: A lot of people don’t take online privacy seriously. Usually going whats the harm. I was never really comfortable with it to the point of apathy, but I was a bit lax at times. This experience made me find out first hand what the harm of everyone having access to your data is.
There is an open bug report for it. Seems like it might be brought back from what I have read on there. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481069. Someone has commented having already re-implemented the feature, but they seem to be stuck on something. If you can perhaps consider helping them out.
I was literally dragging it this whole time because I didn’t know they added this feature. This way is how I’m use to it working, but I’m glad there is an option for you to revert it.
There is a bug for it. The remember toggle doesn’t seem to persist across reboots and in my experience doesn’t always persist across plasmashell restarts. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480235. Not much traction yet, but there are plenty of stuff being worked on. I have filed around 30 + bugs. And about half of them have been fixed.
Sorry, not sure what else to do. I couldn’t even find much information regarding a 121 key keyboard. I do wonder if there is a way to create a custom layout.
All too often it is a downgrade though. A lot of those webapps have terrible search and I only want to search for what is on the current page anyways. For example reddit search has been notoriously bad for a long time. Half the forums online seem to be using the exact same open source software with the exact same terrible search. When all too often I just want to find what is on the current page anyways.
