all of that is because gender is socially derived. we don’t need to attach any aspect of our personality to our gender, or any of our gender to our personality. given this, we can understand all gender to be either contrived or performative. if gender is performative, we can contrive associations that are positive and hopefully raise a new generation of decently well adjusted men who get us closer to living in a post gender-coded society
that’s the craziest part to me! fuckin’ tankies acting like a hyperfascist regime is their ally is bonkers
it’s so much not a stretch that it simply just is. it’s the kinda stretch you get sleeping in a perfectly neutral resting position for 8 hours
Christ. most of them.
George Washington got to be in charge of a country that enshrined chattel slavery in its constitution for 20 years. Thomas Jefferson provided military aid to France’s efforts to quash a slave revolt in Haiti. Andrew Jackson personally orchestrated a genocide against the Cherokee, Creek, and Choctaw (all of whom were aligned with american interests). Zachary Taylor put a bounty on bison, in an effort to starve the native Americans of the great plains. Abraham Lincoln allowed his western military expeditions to do basically whatever to the native Americans. Andrew Johnson started the process of letting confederate leadership be who directed reconstruction rather than being punished for it.
And here we reach Ulysses S Grant. one of America’s favorite punching bag presidents because he got scammed rather frequently, but when you dig into why he was prone to getting scammed, it’s because he thought it was America’s duty to use its economic power to help the lowest people in society. it’s hard to be mad at a guy who was trying so hard to help people that sometimes he let someone con him into thinking they deserved help.
i can keep going on how a ton of our historical presidents have sucked. i’m still personally willing to say the top 3 are Andrew Jackson, Ronald Reagan, and Donald trump
Adam Smith: you gotta bust up monopolies because competition drive’s innovation
the rich: you heard the man! all the wealth has to be consolidated with us! greed is good!
they’re fediverse mascots. i’m not sure about the middle two, but the far left one represents Sharkey (a transfriendly misskey fork) and the far right one represents Pleroma (a fediverse platform written by far right chuds that’s been forked into akkoma about it)
new is a different concept from first api stable release. it’s been in development since 2002. 0.21 was the most recent release, and the software has been pretty much usable since 2010 at least. but this 1.0 release is a big deal because it basically means any features you currently know and like can be expected to be there for forever. it’s more of a promise than a time-based release measure
the google corporate overlords are just straight up evil
gotacha. i’ve only ever heard them called ternaries. maybe i’m old. maybe i’m too young. definitely one of the two
been programming since 2008. the fuck is an elvis operator?
they all have bad dads
20,000 bce. tell the first person to come up with social hierarchy to fuck off
i took a month long hiatus and am probably gonna continue that pattern. the threadiverse has gone completely insane the last couple months and i worry about the people for whom this is their sole gateway into the fediverse, and what they think the consensus on what reality is. i’m mostly on mastodon at this point and have been just… talking to my neighbors more
he knows the nfl is stealing the value he creates. he doesn’t need to pay them
i think some big project, something really important, needs to migrate for the masses of devs to move too
yeah but for that the corporate dogs that enforce those rules have to feel like enforcing the rules
signal has been eroding it’s trustworthiness, and all the stuff you said is why myself and most folks keep using it despite its downsides. in a perfect world more of us would be working to make xmpp a viable option for most people but as it stands it’s a touch too technical for the average person’s mom and dad, who are ultimately who you have to appeal to
