I don’t know where you heard that Super Metroid was originally a remake of the NES game, I’d never heard that and I can’t find anything to back that up. As well, keep in mind that Super Metroid came out a full decade before Zero Mission did, and the original NES game that Zero Mission is a remake of was even lighter on story than Super is. If you aren’t enjoying Super because of a lack of story that’s fine, you won’t miss much if you skip it, though I will warn you that a very common complaint about fusion is that until basically the very end the game is extremely linear. That said, I also think it’s unfair to call Zero Mission an asset flip, it’s much more a full on remake. Back to the Super Metroid thing, I will point out that the Wrecked Ship in Super Metroid is mostly not the Wrecked Ship you traverse in Zero Mission, there’s like one screen that is shared between the two games.

I mean, I for one consider the innevitability of burn in to be enough of a problem that the lack of an OLED screen is an upside honestly.

If you don’t mind me asking, my thought process for the recommendation of canvasing as opposed to something like flyers is that doing so would make you and your efforts come across as more human and genuine, especially if part of the pitch was that Comcast was astroturfing, do you know if that’s something that actually works?

I don’t have any experience doing this, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but my first step would be to collect information on how similar projects have turned out in the past, in terms of cost and adoption, as well as how much money Comcast is spending to counter this effort and what kinds of services they offer in the area at different price points. Then see if there are any people in the community that agree with you on the deployment of municipal internet who could be convinced to make the effort to assist you with convincing the rest of the community. With that information and those people, organize a canvasing effort, as in go door to door and actually talk to people about their stance on the matter. I would focus on that “locally owned and operated” argument, as well as the fact that if Comcast is spending money trying to prevent this they surely must be expecting to earn even more money from not having any competition in the area, so they can get away with higher prices and worse service.

Speaking as someone who didn’t get a phone until 16 or 17, I would say try to figure out what kids his age are using to communicate with each other and get him a device that allows him to participate in that. At the same time, try to educate yourself on what parental controls are available, and at least try to make an effort to educate them on computer and internet literacy, stuff like how to recognize and not engage with clickbait and to not overshare information where it can be seen by strangers.
