I don’t know about the cabinets, but you can find used China really cheap at thrift stores. Most people don’t care about it anymore, so it isn’t worth much. As the boomers are dying their stuff is getting donated.

I personally don’t care about fancy dishes, but a lot of folks like to use it ‘just because’ rather than waiting for a special day.

I don’t visit coffee shops, but out and about, people on zoom calls, or regular calls are much louder.

Also old people. So many old people sending links to lies and bullshit.

I suppose I never got that far into the show. After the scene where Billy Bob portrays himself as an expert on why windmills don’t work, I just about threw my remote at the TV. It’s just plain lies. Viewers took it as truth.

For some reason I read State of Fear recently. At the end of the book he wrote page after page of why he thought global warming wasn’t real.

I can’t recall the exact language he used, but he said something to the effect of “we shouldn’t use any global warming protections until we can exactly predict the weather for ten years. If we can’t predict the weather precisely, the obviously we can’t prove global warming is real.”

Aside from being full of misleading and cherry picked data. The book was terrible. The whole thing read like a bad science lesson from a second rate conspiracy theorist.

It depends on what you’re voting for. The House of representatives is based on your district, not your state as a whole. There are some very oddly shaped districts to take advantage of this.

For anyone that doesn’t understand what gerrymandering is:

1. Imagine your favorite soccer team scores however many goals in a season. Now you have the power to reallocate those goals amongst whatever games you want. Instead of losing some games 3-1 and winning some 4-0 you win every single game 2-1, except you lose one game 40-0. Still the same number of goals, but your record is significantly different. Now do this with votes by district.

2. Different districts get different voting support. There are areas that the line to vote is very long. Sometimes hours. This isn’t an accident. Some people just don’t have time, capacity, or the effort to spend half of their day voting.

For example: Georgia banned giving water to people waiting in line to make conditions worse.

The crate is the dog’s safe space, not a punishment. If I need my dog to be in her crate, I reward her when she goes inside.

There are also hand motions to go with common commands like ‘sit’. I’ve found this makes it easier for a dog to understand me.

You could always start by teaching English in another country. I recall that it pays quite well and is in demand in many countries. The requirements are also very low.

As for learning another language. You get better at it when you’re around it constantly.

Better general medical science. So much of what we use is very old tech. We still can’t regrow cartligage. We still pin bones together with titanium screws. We still mostly use fiberglass casts (though better alternatives exist). We still catch the common cold.

Yeah, the EV range is frustrating.

270 miles? Pretty good. Except you shouldn’t drive it below 20% or above 80%, so really the range is like 170. Cold winter? Now it’s like 75.

No regrets on our EV, but I would feel a whole more more comfortable with 2x the capacity.

Too bad we can’t buy BYD here.

Shop used right now to take advantage. Low mileage EV’s are crazy cheap. We saw ‘used’ vehicles with less than 30 (not thousand) miles for half off, straight from the dealer, full warranty. Much cheaper than a combustion counterpart.

At the price we paid, even if the car is worth $0 at the end of five years, we’ll have done alright.

My take:

• Run water until it’s hot prior to starting dishwasher
• Powder is probably intentionally ‘nerfed’ at the store to sell pods
• Pods didn’t necessarily outperform powder

Unfortunately, the product that they came up with is probably more expensive than my Costco pods. But at least I learned stuff.
