  • Buy ya gotta admit their point that streaming still costs way less than cable …… assuming you’re subscribing to what you want rather than try to recreate

    When I first switched, the math said I cut my costs in third while getting much better internet service and three streaming services

    • Gigabit internet + 3 * streaming service == 1/3 (200M internet + cable)

    The math is still positive but much less so, however streaming services attempts to alienate me are succeeding - I only subscribe to one streaming service and am considering giving it up. Enshittify away and see what that gets you

    I pay for Netflix family plan but since Netflix has decided my kids are no longer in my family when they are at their moms or at college…… I no longer need that. Clear cause and effect

  • For some people there’s cortisone injections. They don’t fix anything but reduce pain and inflammation. I’m actually a use case where that was enough for that occurrence. I had a sharp pain in my knee and the cortisone got rid of the pain and inflammation and that specific issue didn’t come back.

    Of course now my knees are totally wrecked and the only choice they gave me is replacing them

    PSA: I wish they told me more about strength and balance when I was evaluated. I wasn’t able to go through with it at the time and had no reason to believe it was urgent since I could live with the pain . However now after years of of being unable to use my knees, I clearly have weakened muscles in my lower leg, clearly do not balance as well, and have a hard time getting up from the floor. Even worse I keep reading that those are exactly what they look for in aging and independence. So now I still need the joint replacements but somehow have to rebuild my lower leg strength

  • Arguably carnivores have already cut meat intake, at least red meat, to greater impact than vegetarians.

    While I’m going by anecdote rather than data

    • vegetarians/vegans are a small minority so limited impact
    • many people I know have cut back on at least red meat for health or environmental reasons.

    Basically one fewer burger a week by 100 people has more impact than one person not eating meat at all

  • The arguments are usually that fish aren’t animals or more clearly insects aren’t animals, similar to how plants aren’t animals even if they react to damage. Very easy to argue.

    I’ve seen arguments that whatever sentience fish may have, it’s too low level to be aware of pain. I don’t buy that but clearly fish have a simpler central nervous system than mammals. Also easy to argue.
