Technology@lemmy.world•Anthropic has surged to a trillion-dollar valuation on secondary markets, overtaking OpenAI.English
912·4 days agoHuh? They are the best quality delivered by any Commercial AI company. Are you confusing compainies who provide AI as their service with what the actual AI bubble is? The AI bubble is built off companies making promises of what they can provide using AI. They are the ones who cannot deliver. Anthropic is the best performing AI service on the market. They wont cause the AI bubble or its eventual burst. They aren’t valued by what their consumers arent able to provide. Anthropics valuation is based off its own intrinsic factors which is affected by the state of the bubble and again not the cause or blame.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How did the gun buy back program work did you get a gift card or cash or something? How effective was this? Did this even make a dimple in crime?English
6·16 days agoHorribly in wny. More guns got stolen but even the ones stolen didnt offset the amount of useless antique guns that got traded in for the same cash as an AR. There is a reason you can not get any statistics from NY on the SAFE act even with FOIL requests.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do people in real life actually care who dates who and who is in or out of "people's leagues"?English
1·18 days agoBunch of “idc” tossed around this thread but i feel like that is natural for anonymous thread pf anonymous people and the difficulty applying the question to real life.
Yes, but not so much that I care about either person’s wellbeing or the quality of their character. Relationship characteristics are simply very telling information for how a person operates. It can put information upfront for all to see without the people really knowing it. Things like what they value, what they have patience for or lack, good insight as to their goals for life.
And im not saying any of this comes from a pass on the sidewalk. The info that is valuable comes from listening to what the person has to say, either on social media or asking them how the family/life is going. So my opinion isnt about caring who fucks who but when it comes to co-workers, superiors, individuals you are paying to provide service (as in financial advisor, consultant, real estate agent, etc.) and anyone else who affects your wellbeing and are also close enough proxy to hear about who their dating - those are the people I observe.
A person can tell you that they are lying by the movement of their pupil. So how they navigate thru dating and relationships can be an encylopedia of information if you want it to be.

Technology@lemmy.world•Newly purchased Vizio TVs now require Walmart accounts to use smart featuresEnglish
7·1 month agoIts been so long since ive had or bought a tv, what are the brands that are the least shitty now? I used to always be a samsung everything kinda guy but fuck them now. I wish they never started fucking around with software and stuck to just hardware. Their products from strictly the hardware side are still excellent. My zfold7 is amazing the older gens started rickety but each version i got (so the 3, the 5 and the 7) has been a respectible improvement but the 7 really stepped up the quality. The last samsung tv i got was like 65" curved screen amazing picture but the fucking interface was pure cancer and i will not buy another. My samsung 4k monitors, non-smart normal fridge, and my equally as dumb oven are great and dont have any stupid shit so Ill buy more dumb samsung products lol.

1·1 month agoNo shit i started in cnc machining. Irrelevant but wanna ask because its crissed my mind before, how hard is it to learn as a trade? Ive seen local tractor/agg suppliers qlmost constantly looking and im able to tear down and rebuild mazaks and feel like diesel engine repair wouldnt be any more difficult than that. Would it be something a place would do as on the job training or is this something that needs to be trained at a cert school/trade school?

science@lemmy.world•Father’s tobacco use may raise children’s diabetes riskEnglish
3·1 month agoYeah, they need to come up with a different name for type 2 diabetes so dumbass articles like this for getting reported as affecting “diabetics” when you have to actually find and read the study to find out its all based on a correlation found in mice processing sugars and is only a theory for type 2 diabetics.
Or as they should be more appropriately named fat lazy fucksabetes. They are both named “diabetes” because of the conditions share the same outcome of inability to produce insulin.
But one is cause by being fat and fuckin lazy while the other is an autoimmune decease cuased by genetics that trigger immune system responses to attack the islet cells that produce insulin and is (as of now in the US eventhough islet transplants are the primary treatment plan outside the US) a chronic desease. The fat fucks desease is just from the person eating sooooo many carbs and doing soooooo little excersise that their body uses up all their islet cells of which everyone is born with a set amount. So if they just stopped being fat fucks, ate healthy portions and excersized - THEIR DIESEASE WOULD NEVER FUCKING HAPPEN!!!
Sincerely an american type 1 diabetic who is surrounded everyday by fat lazy fucks thinking they can share their inconvenient hassle of ch3cking their sugars or taking shots b3cause fat fuck cant put down the donut. Im also enrolled in a clinical trial for islet transplants. Something I never thought id ever see since diagnosed at 11 years old when i got a fucking ear infection and my retard immun3 system killed all my islet cells amd have been taking 4-8 shots per day every time i eat because my body hasnt produced insulin since i was 11.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you a use it all now or save things for later sort of person?English
4·1 month agoWith drugs? Use it all now. Its how you avoid chemical addictions. Stretching out your drugs so you have a little every day in fear of running out is how a little bit every day turns into a lot everyday witbout noticing. Whereas something like percocets that you get from someone filling a script once a month, you do them all the weekend you get them and dont do any for the next 28 days, and youll be able to stiff arm any chemical dependencies at a distance for far longer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•(Roughly) how old are you and how did you come to be on Lemmy?English
3·2 months agoYou know this is a chart of the ages most likely to participate in a survey not necessarily a representation of the avg age of users, right? Especially depending on how many days the survey ran for because Lemmy is far less likely to see daily user activity than a facebook/reddit/twitter. Its just not big enough to generate enough content to fill daily use needs. Not talking shit just reflecting on what ive seen thru daily active user reports and content volume.
The amount of U.S. aid directly supporting Ukraine is about $127 billion, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
Dont make the side you are arguing for look stupid by making shit up.

2·2 months agoLike you want the community to describe why hiding in a closet is a place to hid and a garage basement, bedroom, etc are all room of which would have a place like a closet to hide in.
Has nothjng to do with the closet to my knowledge and was always just being about hiding.

That is far from the universal standard especially for non-s&p500 companies who compete against the prices set by the s&p500 companies. In competative markets/industries the importing party doesnt always have controll over when their order ships and what the tariff rates will be at time of shipment. It takes 3-6 months for large import orders to be dwlivered with landed price adjustments. The list price isnt going to fluctuate with every penny movement. The price is dictated by the market price and share of market a company holds. So a lot of times the tariff shock isnt going to find its way to the list price in any less than 3-6month time span. To reiterate, this is for products in a competative market. Your iphones, pc parts, game consoles are not competstive markets. The pipe fitting valve (PVF) industry is a v9mpetative industry. Hundreds of mfgers, accross hundreds if not thousands of skus
