I have started a new community on db0 called [email protected] . This is in response to the recent drama surrounding feddit’s Zionism problem.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been trying to minimise, or try my best to avoid companies that are associated with Israel.
What was the drama? I’m out of the loop
This just makes me sad. So I have to decide now - enjoy the fantastic comms on db0 or to have access to the biggest community of my region and language but not both?
I just wanted a nice, enjoyable thing to do and engage with after reddit, practice my French, have a laugh about some innocent memes, and have some interesting interactions with like-minded people, but now I’m marked as a Nazi and Zionist just because of the instance I chose to create an account on?
It honestly hurts to read all that vitriol. To be thrown into the same pot as people I despise the most. I just came back from a protest against the AfD a few weeks ago, for heaven’s sake, and now I’m considered a Nazi myself.
Maybe I need to disengage from Lemmy, too.
You could have the best of both worlds by joining a neutral instance or selfhost one and tailoring your feed.
The lemmy client voyager allow you to easily switch between accounts
Zionism is a supermasist genocidal ideology like Nazi. People don’t means literally Nazis when refering to Zionists just like people do not mean literal nazis when talking about white supermasist.
I don’t consider you a zionazi unless you start defending zionism. You can lose grants in Germany for supporting BDS
In 2023 and 2024, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz) classified the BDS movement as a “suspected extremist threat”
How can I trust people in Germany to be able to allow mentionning that some europeans products on lemmy?
Or you could change instance. If your admins are this adamant about Zionism and stopping anti-zionist voices, why would you want to stay there?
There are French instances like jlai.lu and tarte.nuage-libre.fr if you want to practice your French.
This is the power of the Fediverse, we aren’t limited to one instance or set of administration policies.
I could do that, and I
maymost likely will. I would be more enthusiastic about it however if I had actually personally encountered the issues as criticized. The users I interact with are normal people, the political differences I encounter are usually about the sensibility or implementation of certain policies, not about whether a genocide is happening in Gaza (which I find is undisputed, just to make my position clear).
What I HAVE seen (in real life) is people being unsure about whether (or how) to speak out against the Israeli war machine because they are afraid of being branded racists, but that’s a German problem due to our history and people conflating anti-zionism with antisemitism, not one specific to the instance.
If you are looking for another German instance, https://discuss.tchncs.de/ is great, they offer a few other services at https://tchncs.de/
Thank you, I’ll consider it!
I get what you’re saying and agree to some extent, but for local and language-specific instances in particular losing access to /local really does suck.
Sorry to hear. Hope the protest was good.
We had a fantastic time, thanks. It was small but it was good to see the neighborhood come together against the fascists.
Good to see indeed!
Hello,
Why not use [email protected] ?
I would rather db0 over feddit, we already have [email protected] and a track record of not tolerating nazi bars and a hard line stance against zionism.
Are you implying feddit.uk is a nazi bar? @[email protected]
Nazi bar is certainly a new one. I honestly don’t even know what we’ve done to deserve the accusation, I think we’re being confused with .org here.
I don’t mind if people want nothing to do with us, but I’d appreciate it if it was for stuff we did. Like, I don’t think I can credibly be called a Zionist. Someone once nuked their whole instance because I pushed back on the whole criticising Israel = antisemitism thing!
Hi, sorry that wasn’t so much a “You’re a nazi bar instance” as it was a “I like that dbzer0 doesn’t tolerate them” if that makes sense. But yes your name is a bit confusing as well!
“I trust the admin here and don’t know about the admin there” is honestly fair. I can see where you’re coming from now, it was just a bit ambiguous.
But yes your name is a bit confusing as well!
Technically, we came first, so it’s the Jerries that are the copycats! (We technically got it from feddit.de, but I didn’t choose the name so my hands are clean)
I don’t know anything about .uk, but it has the same name as .org which isn’t a good look if they’re different.
What I do know is that dbzero has policies I agree with. As an Irish anarchist I would rather use it over an instance that may be forced to follow British laws.
Also .dk
By that logic, aren’t lemmy.ml and lemmy.world the same?
Two of the moderators are feddit.org mods
- https://feddit.org/u/buyeuropean was the first account of https://lemmy.ca/u/buyeuropean , who was the maintainer of https://buy-european.net/en (now inactive). They don’t seem active anymore, they should probably be removed
- https://feddit.org/u/circledot modlog is literally empty: https://feddit.org/modlog?userId=4490620 , are you planning to recreate every community that has a feddit.org mod?
FYI @[email protected]
[email protected] stands against zionists.
If people have direct evidence about the mods being genocide supporters then we would look into removing them.
I always read about how the beauty of the fediverse is that if you don’t like an instance and communiry you can move. It magically disappear when it is about palestine.
The beauty of the fediverse is also to be able to interact with communities from different instances, to avoid recreate community on every instance, and fragment the small activity there is on a topic.
At the moment, on the “buy european / buy from EU” topic, there are
- [email protected] : most active community
- [email protected] : the one you want to cancel
- [email protected] : small one that exists before a single mod thought it was worth it to recreate yet another buyfromeu community
- [email protected] : made by someone that disagreed with [email protected] , seems like they stopped posting shortly
- and now [email protected]
That topic isn’t that active in the first place. There are a few posts a day. Moderation is okay. There doesn’t seem to be a need to create yet another community.
That’s a point I addressed 11 months ago already: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/39614799
Note that there are cases when new communities need to emerge due to power tripping mods. But here, the feddit.uk mods and admins have been good, no such issue to be reported.
In another comment, Graine this about feddit.org and feddit.uk
I don’t know anything about .uk, but it has the same name as .org which isn’t a good look if they’re different.
As most of the people already know, lemmy.ml and lemmy.world are quite different.
So yeah, if you want to create another community, it’s of course your right, but expect the few people who have been keeping the most active community alive for a year to question your choice.
I only talked about my personal reason i didn’t encourage anybody to do the same as me.
The beauty of lemmy is that you can block what you don’t like if you think this new community is useless you can simply block it
Db0 has proven to be a real ally to Palestinians and their struggle for liberation from settler colonialism and zionism. I know for sure that saying is there any non german products alternstive will not be considered xenophobia
Db0 has proven to be a real ally to Palestinians and their struggle for liberation from settler colonialism and zionism
That’s definitely true for dbzer0, however I’m a bit surprised that you are using LW based on their history on the question:
- Worldnews mods remove last article written by assasinated Palestinian journalist Hossam Shabat - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/40774736
- Jordanlund removing links for being hosted on Substack again - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/60842486
If there was full portability I would switch but it is not possible to transfer all posts of my communities has with all the upvotes and comments. I blocked worldnews because of what you mentionned and my political community is on piefed.
Feddit.org mods are even worst than Jordan. At lease Jordan never accused me of being an antisemite
so this is products and services that are ok with jews moving to palestine, just not establishing an independent state there?
