Played Darksiders 3 some more.

Figured out what happens to souls after you die, a phantom / ghost like thingy start flying near the place, you just destroy it and get back the souls. Got a new powerup, and am at a place with many enemies. Turned it off the game when I kept dying. Will get back to it this weekend.

Also played some Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains.

So the game is apparently a port of the mobile version, which basically gives you lots of XP so you level up faster, making the game much easier. Which I like, since these older RPGs can be pretty tough.

The game has random encounters, which I am not a fan of, but you get the option to “Auto Attack” which makes these fights much faster, and with increased XP, it keeps the things moving fast. There is also a “Tame” mechanic which allows you to capture different monsters, and then with “Fusion system” you can merge different monsters or items to get different monsters or upgrade your equipment. You can also summon the monsters in battle, and they can help you attack the enemy.

There are also many side-quests and puzzles, but they are quite obtuse if you aren’t used to these older games. The quests doesn’t appear as anything special, you just talk to NPCs and they talk like other NPCs but mention some problem in it, so you have to fix their problem or whatever, without any log or marker or anything. Took me a bit getting used to, and actually missed a few side-quests in the first area.

The story and the world is pretty good though, even with subpar translation and the way font formatting is.

So far, I’ll recommend it if you like older RPGs with good stories, and are willing to deal with some dated mechanics.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

I think I’m closer to the end of Xenoblade X than I expected. I thought there’s be new side quests popping up in the new endgame content, but there’s been nothing, really. I finished up the Collectopedia today and then I’m off to the third part of the final chapter. After that, it’s the last few high level tyrants to finish off the map completion. It might still take a while, Part 2 took way longer than I expected. I’m curious how much of this new endgame they actually had in mind back on the Wii U. I find it hard to believe the Lao tease at the end was always meant to be what we got now. Makes me wonder if they scrapped the original plans or if they never had any to begin with.

Wild Arms 2 is beaten. In the end, I much prefer the first one. It’s mostly the story that just lost me near the end of Disk 1. The villains never really did anything interesting while they were around on Disk 1 and Disk 2 didn’t really have any villains to begin with. Your main antagonist becomes a part of space that’s eating up the world or some-such, which just doesn’t hook me. I like my villains to be less metaphysical and more mustache-twirling.

In its place, I started playing Fallout 3! I played it a good 10 years ago but never finished it, because I always stop playing Bethesda games at some point. It’s not even the game’s fault, the literal last thing I did was find a map with all vaults and I was really excited to go see them, and then I just never did. But I really like the world of Fallout, so I’m recording it now because that’s the only way I’ll ever stay motivated to finish it.

Nothing on my Switch at the moment, but I have been meaning to borrow Echoes of Wisdom from a colleague at some point.

On PS5 I’m nearing the end of Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Loving the game so far - excellent writing and the streamlined D&D gameplay is incredible.

I’ve also just purchased Squeakross: Home Squeak Home on Steam! It’s a picross game, where each completed puzzle earns pieces of furniture to decorate a little house for your rat character. I love rodents and picross, so this is right up my street! Apparently it’s on Switch as well.

    Playing Trails Beyond the Horizon!

Quite a bit of progress, I’m on the latter half of Act 2 having just finished the second part of the Rean route.

Seems like the route splits aren’t quite like Reverie, with Van’s side taking most of the playtime (I’d say his team gets 50-60% of the game), but despite their reduced playtime the other two routes have been far more interesting. The end of latest Rean section brought a major reveal that has me extremely interested in direction the story is going alongside a long-waited battle where they nailed both custscenes and challenge.

    Rean Route 2 Boss

We finally got the Rean vs Shizuna battle and it was pure hype. And having a 4-way boss battle with her, Kurogane, Kincaid and Ashladd was not something I was expecting to hit mid-game.

One thing I haven’t commented before is the quality of the Switch 1 version, which has some really odd problems - it keeps going back and forth between “this looks pretty good” and “extremely low-res and blurry” very abruptly and all the time. It’s very distracting, and given how much worse it looks than Daybreak 1/2 (which AFAIK runs on the same engine) I think they messed up something in this port.

Fully focused on Horizon so no progress on other games.

Hopefully they will fix the issue.

You’ve mentioned your reasoning before, but as much Switch games as you play, why not just upgrade to Switch 2? Won’t suggest that to everyone but you primarily play on Switch, right?

I kept playing River City Saga: Three Kingdoms. I finished a couple of chapters and got some really cool powerups. I hope to finish the main story before I get the sequel.

Seeing the sad news about Kazuo Sawa made me nostalgic for the classic Kunio-Kun games. The music in these games is amazing and some of these tunes are burned into my memory. I booted up Double Dragon & Kunio-kun: Retro Brawler Bundle on my Switch. I played mostly Kunio-Kun No Nekketsu Soccer League, the best football game ever made in my humble opinion. I used to play this on the Famicom when I was a kid. The music is so good and the game is so much fun!

I also got my Nintendo Classics Virtual Boy delivered today, but I won’t be able to play any games until the app releases on the 17th. I played it at a friend’s house in the 90’s, so it’ll be interesting to relive that. I’m looking forward to trying out Wario and Teleroboxer.

Oh, sad to head about him. Missed the news. Though I have only played Double Dragon from the older games.

Would love to hear how it feels to play Virtual Boy now. The game trailers don’t look that interesting in 2D, but maybe they are more fun with the device.

My sister and I have 9 things left to complete both of our shiny living dexes in Z-A (I’m going for all forms - regional, alternates & sexes, while she’s just going for one mon per dex #), so probably more of that. 3 of my remaining guys are Pumpkaboo/Gourgeist forms, and since only the medium size spawns in Hyperspace I have to go back to doing those the old way by running through the Wild Zone over and over. Still, beats doing them in Sword.

I guess if anyone has any spare shiny Pumpkaboo (small or 2x jumbo) hit me up, I have 8 boxes of extra shinies I don’t need.
