    Ethernet and fiber are not the same; they differ primarily in medium, speed, and distance capabilities. Ethernet typically uses copper cables to transmit electrical signals for short-range, local connections. Fiber uses glass strands to transmit light, offering much higher speeds, lower latency, and longer distances.

      It was a waste because twisted pair copper and fiber are mediums. Fiber optical networking has Ethernet standards such as 100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-SX/LX, 10GBASE-SR, and 10GBASE-LR.
