I wanted to share a new app I just started using. Its called Shiru and it works like streamio only its for just anime. Out of the box it won’t stream anything. You have to add the extensions for streaming. So go here after installing Shiru. https://github.com/Spithskia/Shiru-Extensions then copy and paste the link for the extensions into the sources part of settings. Then set the bandwidth limit, turn off autoplay next chapter to avoid issues like I had early and add a my anime list account for saving progress marks and playlist.

I wonder why open-source projects are now full of emojis and ridiculous stuff like “Please ensure that any media you use with this app is obtained legally”?

What happened to the hacker spirit and the communities that sprouted from SourceForge and Linux?

    Sorry for the rant.

What happened to the hacker spirit and the communities that sprouted from SourceForge and Linux?

It was scared into hiding by lawsuit-happy ultracapitalist corporations with Legal departments who have nothing better to do than squash innovation and fun (see: Nintendo, etc.).

Well I can’t speak to the emojis, because I have no idea either, but this kinda stuff

“Please ensure that any media you use with this app is obtained legally”?

Has always been put in projects of this nature for as far back as I can remember, “Remember this is for educational purposes only!”, “This is intended for your LEGAL backups only!” Etc etc

I’m pretty fine with it. Usually, people who have emojis in their READMEs have put in the time to make it more presentable and readable.

This is originally been forked from a project called “Miru”, but the original dev also ended up making a complete rewrite called “Hayase”, so you should check that too. It is supposedly more performant and has a few new cool features like offline support, episode discussion + other things.
