Is there, or is there going to be, a way to “follow” Lemmy users apart from subscribing to communities?

If Mastodon did threads well, I would have stayed on it. I wouldn’t care for it at all if I could also “follow” accounts on Lemmy (and the accounts that matter were on Lemmy).
Following a user is more like Mastodon than Lemmy, you might wanna use Mastodon in the case I think
