Tangentially related, but I was posting and then just got captivated by a video I already saw days ago. This is just so fuckin mesmerizing. Especially that bridge into the showoff… hnnng.

One of my favorite parts about the legend, the goat, the man who literally invented Honky Tonk music, The Texas Troubadour Ernest Tubb, is when he goes:

    “Aww Leon” *Leon Rhodes solo*

    then immediately

“Now let’s hear you Buddy” *Buddy Emmons solo*.

And both are bangers and then he comes back in with his smooth ass voice to say something sad while sounding oddly happy.

It’s Honky Tonk not jazz so there’s not a clarinet to be found, but he do the callouts!

All of 'em! At least the hits though. Off the top of my head:

        Waltz Across Texas
        Walking The Floor Over You
        Yellow Rose of Texas
        Just a Drink Away
I'll Be There (If You Ever Want Me)
        Blue Eyed Elaine
        Thanks A Lot
Saturday Satan Sunday Saint *(it's Christian but still a banger)*
Women Make a Fool Out of Me
Driving Nails in my Coffin (grand ol opry version on YT is my favorite).

Those are some of his biggest hits, there’s many other songs that are just as good. Also his work with Loretta Lynn is great too.
