I’m looking for an app to manage recurring household tasks. Some things I do daily, some weekly, some twice a month. I want something that can show me what’s next instead of just a list of everything.
I’m not looking for a scheduler like Google Calendar. I don’t want to assign fixed dates or times to tasks. Instead:
- Whenever I cross off a task, it should sit inactive until the next recurrence interval
- Then it should automatically become active again
- And I want the app to show me which task I have to perform next
Any recommendations for an Android app to notify me of recurring chores when it’s time to perform them again?
Loop Habit Tracker is pretty good for this. In particular, it allows you to schedule stuff like ‘twice a month’, or even ‘run 10 km a week’ or somesuch. The app shows the whole list, but marks which tasks are done and which aren’t yet. Plus there are notifications and widgets, but I haven’t used the latter.
Best part is that it’s open-source and requires nearly zero permissions. OTOH the data isn’t synced anywhere.

Could you elaborate a bit on these requirements? It’s been said already, but all of these can be accomplished with any task app. However, you’ve explicitly stated that you don’t want that, nor do you want tasks set for a specific time or date…
🤔🤔
I understand the frustration of having a clear picture in your head of what you want, but also being unable to articulate it correctly. So, what specific behavior are you looking for in this hypothetical app that’s different from a “normal” tasks app?
I hadn’t initially considered habit trackers when writing my question, but after reading the answers I realized they are a good option. Besides that, I copied one of the few apps I thought might be better. Ultimately, I chose a habit tracker, so I didn’t try out the home chore tracker app I copied in another response here.
Also, @[email protected] got it right.
I’m not the op but Ill take a stab at their ask because I want something like this too.
The idea is to have a list of tasks which autopopulate based on their time since last completed. Those tasks do not have a schedule due date on them, but a recurrence interval. When the task is marked as complete the system will hide that task until the designated time has elapsed.
This means that when opening the app, you only see tasks that are “overdue” based on their interval coming back up. If I don’t complete the task today, it’s still there tomorrow. If I complete the task, it should not reappear until the interval is up, and that interval should not be dependent on the day the task was completed.
Example task; water plants every 7 days. I want the app to tell me exactly 7 days after I last completed the task that it’s time to water the plants, regardless of whether it took me 3 days to complete the task.
Would love to know if this exists already.

That’s kinda what I figured, but I wanted to hear it from OP before making assumptions.
I think Loop Habit Tracker can do this… I’ll check it out on my phone when I get a sec.Edit: nope, it can’t
I’ve been looking for the exact same thing. The closest I’ve found is Galarm, but it’s still exact day/time based
I use Table Habit for stuff like this.
Why does it need full network access tho?
I guess it’s for sync
Support network sync with WebDAV
Wow this looks great, thanks!
I use medtimer. https://f-droid.org/packages/com.futsch1.medtimer
Can set tasks for daily or a year later and for it to repeat. And you can check off when you did it and it’ll keep a record of that.
It’ll also provide a list view of all your tasks. Well I guess its for medicine, but I too found it after looking for something to keep track of random tasks that I do weekly, monthly, and so on.
I use the build in calendar, with repeat events
It’s the first thing I thought about but I don’t like tasks being scheduled for a given date or time.
hmm there used to be an option to flexibly schedule it but I don’t see it anymore
Same. Keep it simple
Tasks.org seems like it might work from a quick look.
Toodledoo worked very well for me. Even had annual reminders for car tax & insurance etc.
I’ve been using Supatask
Have you tried a spouse?
Seriously though, Structured does this for me now with some tweaking: https://structured.app/
Dude, the amount of things my wife can remember for me is astounding.
TickTick, ReDo Loop, HabitNow, Loop Habit Tracker, Habitica, House Chores Cleaning Schedule
I use scheduled Google Tasks and let my disdain of notifications drive task completion
