The latch (gold part that holds the door closed) looks stuck inside. It’s caught on the bottom if you look closely. As a temporary fix you should just be able to nudge / wiggle it up with a butter knife or similar and hopefully it’ll pop right out.
In between the "ZOO"s that little springy thing, try and push it towards the top, any way you can make that happen ougta be fine.
Also, if it actually is aligned and that doesn’t help (it’s a little hard for me to see in this pic) it could just be gunky in the back of the assembly. If that is the case spraying an oil like Ballistol in the cracks and wiggling it may help.
No the tldr is I definitely need to replace the latch. One screw is totally stuck but some builders opposite are hopefully going to come and loosen it for me. Then I’m determined to replace the latch myself.
