Sorry but his voter base strikes me as people who only care about their own well being and they always flip their shit when the wrong people get burnt.

This is accurate. I have a decent amount of Republican family and friends and this week was the first time I’d seen them go, “wait, oh HELL no.” I mean there is now a Republican group that is suing this administration for not following due process and circumventing Congress. That says a lot.

Just think about a retiree boomer who had their savings wiped out. What’s left to lose? Personally, I think there is a Julius Ceasar moment coming. Not condoning that but the writing is on the wall.

It seems to be necessary that they both be personally affected, and recognize that, for them to start caring.

Sure, if “caring about their own well-being” = “maintaining their very fragile shitty worldview and trying to hide their pants-wetting cowardice about anything unfamiliar,” sure.

That depends what you mean by “well being”. Tons of MAGA folk have voted for Republicans who are cutting the social services they depend on. Clearly that is self destructive, and they know it. Rural hospitals, food stamps, national pension, etc.

That is to say, your comment doesn’t line up with reality. There must be something more going on in their heads.
