I prefer to lean friendly & understanding, yet as someone dealing with a terminal disease, I’ll admit that irritability can happen fast. Eh, nous faisons ce que nous pouvons. 🙄

  • My blunt boomer views are usually piss the young people off.

Hah, I hear you. Me, I’m a big fan of personal opinion and expression, as communicated with kindness and understanding, which… of course I’m not able to consistently do, myself. Thereby invoking the RAGE. 😄

And yet-- do you disagree with the idea that the Boomer Class as a whole reveled in their opportunities, then ‘pulled the ladder up behind them?’ Because to me (Gen X), it’s a perfectly cutting critique, economically and otherwise.

And truly-- the USA really did have a major epoque of ‘Greatness’ from approx the mid-1930’s through the mid-70’s. Who can possibly deny that, eh?

But from what I understand, your whole gen got extraordinarily selfish upon all that, speaking as Gen-X. That is, as a generational force, you commonly climbed right up the the privilege-ladder via FDR-level policy, then got all hostile to the idea that other people couldn’t come after you. Then naturally, deliberately fuck with the whole system of support, if it wasn’t for your narrow class.

So yeah… Your whole generation deserves the deepest of shame (and arguably my own as well for its toxic participation)

  • Oof, I feel you. Myself I’m in late middle age, carrying a terminal illness, and it’s looking very much the same.

Oh btw, another factor of course is late-stage capitalism itself, as directly brought on by the asshole-billionaire class & a variety wealth-accumulating mechanisms baked deep in to the system.

And now, AI. Possibly just as worse as any of them, at least in terms of burying civilisation.

Anyway, I personally feel based on my understanding of the news and various factors that most of us have only got a few years left, at best. At least, in terms of what we’d consider “recognisable existence.” In any case, it’s only going to get more and more turbulent and chaotic along the way. For some other opinions, certainly check out c/collapse and r/collapse, if you like.

That said, if the Orange-Red-Billionaire Coalition fail to stop a fair, non-bullied midterms in the States in a little while, it would certainly give us however much more breathing room. Knock on wood, anybody? At the same time, the supervillains are essentially doing whatever they can to thwart that. Article and news abound upon their methodologies, up to and including Drumpf declaring Martial Law.

In truth I’m just an amateur, though, so what the heck do I know?

Oh… and here’s to you, friend!

I remember… Alan Garcia with his stupid-ass “agua por todos” campaign, or whatever that fraud deal was. So I’m always worrying about El Perú… all my dear relatives there. And the land, of course. The dear, wonderful, spectacular, dry landscape and biome of Perú. <3

Ah, dammit… so much fresh-water for us depends on melting glacier ice to create potable water sources, no?

  • Well, I just upvoted your comment above mine, FWIW. :D

Yeah, I’m a weird one in wanting to walk through facts & reality to get to the other side, no matter how bad the news is. Very little harsh news depresses me anymore, maybe because I know what our endgame will be, approximately. We embarked on this path 10-12Kyrs ago when we made the global power grab upon mass-agriculture. But that’s a long story, haha.

That said, loads of things these days make me sad, and there’s no question that each day’s news nowadays is usually a load of heart-break. So I can certainly understand why most folks want to live in more comfortable reality-bubbles than mine.

(not to sound all pretentious or anything XD)
