Guess what, I never created an account. I just can’t get into that quick content, I find it boring after 5 minutes, without substance. I tried both youtube shorts and instagram reels, boring! I prefer long talks or analysis on youtube.

Photogimp is just lipstick. There are root design choices that create the problems.

Have you tried OnlyOffice? It has better compatibility with MS formats than LibreOffice.
Yeah, snaps won’t be able to access the “external” codecs (outside their jail). So either install the official firefox package from the firefox site, or chrome.
You need to install the codecs, there’s a way to do it on ubuntu, just google search it (and there’s an option during installation to do it too). The N150 cpu and its integrated gpu is not a problem for your codec problem, it’s a matter of installing the right software.
As someone now living in Europe, I find the US protests mild and small. When Europeans protest, they protest. I mean, my native Greece saw a massive protest in Feb, well over a million went out, in a country of ~9 million. This is how you do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm3vEKMnA-8

ARM was bought by the Japanese, it’s no longer European. RISC-V is the future.

In my area in Greece, the water is not safe, my brother who used to work in the water containers says it’s full of rats. We all buy bottles. It would be nice to be environmentally conscious about it, but there’s no choice about it.
Me too. Just tonight I lost my cat, and found her hours later, with a tomcat on top… Doctor said she’s too young to be spayed, he was wrong…

Severance is the best show of the 2020s IMHO.

Processed food is bad, this is common knowledge. Saturated fat is nothing compared to it. These fake burgers are ultra processed in order to feel like meat. Just do a search about processed foods on the guardian and nytimes in the last year. A LOT of new research has come out about it.

Saturated fat is not evil, this is an old idea that has been debunked by latest research.

Impossible burgers are extremely unhealthy, full of processed flours and additives. It’s best to not eat any “meat” at all, and instead eat whole vegan foods, than eat these things. Lab grown meat, if it’s like real meat, is much more desirable health-wise.
Anticheat is kernel compromise. No one should be using games that use that, or OSes that allow it.
As for fulfillment, unless you need very specific apps to do your job, I’m sure it can be fulfilling with the right DE and distro. For me, I’m using Linux since 1998, and I still prefer Mint over Arch, for example. It just works.
That was true in the past. But in the last 10 years people have stalled their PC upgrades. That’s the real reason why they don’t move to Win11, because they don’t want to buy a new PC. And that’s where Linux is going to get that market from MS.

Actually, I’d trust the Graphene guys’ evaluation. They do know what they’re talking about there. And it’s true that Playstore is more secure than foss store offerings, unfortunately. You see, these are built securely. Google is a security-driven company. That much is true, and I know that first hand. BUT they are not a PRIVACY-driven company. There is a difference here.
What we need, is a totally de-googled Chromium with added hardened extensions (e.g. bringing back the v2 manifest to run various privacy and security extensions). This would have more security than Firefox, but also more privacy.
I believe that’s the best way forward, because creating a new web browser from scratch with these performance expectations, is a pipe dream (looking at you, ladybird). So, yeah, the open source community needs to fork chromium, not firefox. Firefox was never great to begin with as a technology, it’s measurably slower than Chrome for example, and it uses a LOT more RAM. Linux users are known to want to resurrect old computers with less than 4 GB of ram (I’m one of them), firefox can’t deliver that. I always have to resort to Chrome to make it bearable. But I rather use an official foss fork instead. One that is trusted.
A Cirrus Logic, on VLB on my 486DX/40, with 4 MB of RAM, and a SoundBlaster card. December 1994.

Rubicon was excellent. Most of the other shows mentioned here are actually well known, but this one truly is a deep cut.

Huge sci-fi lover here. But at the same time, colonization of space for humans is possibly impossible without avatars. The human body evolved here, and it’s a vessel that works here the best. To colonize other worlds, it’s more economically viable to send machines, create biologically synthesized new species (taking dna from local species there), and then transfer consciousness to them. Similar with Avatar, but without having to have the spaceships arrive in the planet full of humans. Humans remain on earth, and they project their consciousness somewhere else, in an instant due to entanglement.
Being using computers since 1992. I learned with DOS and SCO Unix.
I prefer GUIs, thank you very much.
Even when the only available option for me was Windows 3.1, I still preferred it over the CMD.
