Did Claude give you erectile dysfunction?
I accidentally posted without doing a proper proof read lol.
Fixed it.
In any case, its metaphorically true that the sickness was caused by ‘bad air’. It’s fascinating that they were so close to understanding it as a function, if not the reality.
Their history is pretty interesting.
The reason why they’re shaped like that is because “plague doctors” used to stuff flowers and herbs into the ‘beak’ so they wouldn’t have to smell dead bodies all the time.
This had an unintended side effect of protecting against what doctors thought was miasma (bad air).
Eventually they realised plague doctors weren’t getting sick. They thought what was getting them sick was the bad smells.

3·5 days agoIf you can’t face the music, just claim you got food poisoning and spent three hours curled up in the foetal position on the floor of your shower shitting your brains out, sweating and crying in pain.
Anyone with a modicum of social awareness will stop asking questions real fast, and it explains why you’ll be fine to go into public the following day.

1·6 days agoUntraceable gold loses about 10% of its value. But that’s assuming you’re a reputable seller, trading with a reputable buyer.
If you’re a nobody, selling to someone who knows what theyre doing, expect to lose 25% or more for the risk incurred. But honestly, you’re not realistically finding anyone reputable, you’re finding someone else who wants the burden of finding someone else to sell it to, so expect to lose more.
But then throw on top the cost of the crucible, moulds, furnace, and losses incurred from inexperience trying to remove the traceable imperfections… As I said, its a massive pain in the ass…

14·6 days agoHypothetically, finding the gold bars is a massive pain in the ass.
Without identification, the value of the bars drops off a shitload.
You can’t just shave off the serial numbers and then sell them.
You can’t just resmelt them either, the bars are cast at over 1000°C, and even then, the bars have unique imperfections (deliberate) which make them easily identifiable.

1·6 days agoPeople fail to realise we have already reached the threshold for nonessential jobs; that’s why people can make millions from being an influencer.
The competition for jobs is so tight that its a luxury to have a job; think about how fucked up that is.
