Maybe not, I don’t know how much he makes, there’s a lot I’d put up with if it could mean early retirement. If he’s really making 2.8m in two years then that’s a mil after taxes and there’s no reason he couldn’t retire at 40 and live a more modest lifestyle. Could be worth it.

Yeah seems kind of whiny since he’s super successful and was probably already well-off, but on the other hand…
I’m kind of tired of hearing that my nieces and nephews have no career goals other than to be a “content creator”.
Maybe if more people were honest about what it takes and how the social media companies have started to squeeze creators then kids would aspire to get real jobs.

Technology@lemmy.world•EFF is Leaving X | Electronic Frontier FoundationEnglish
7·12 days agoYeah, it’s not a trivial problem to solve either, especially if platforms censor mentions of decentralized alternatives.
However, it’s hard for the oligarchs to censor the fact that an organization like EFF exists, and hopefully someone clicks on one of their posts and reads something on their blog about decentralized alternatives.

Technology@lemmy.world•Cindy Cohn (EFF) Warns Jon Stewart That Americans Have to Make X and Meta ‘Less Important’English
4·20 days agoYeah, he seems to think that the over-moderation is a good thing, and Cindy tries to convince him that censorship is bad and the answer instead is more like what you can do with the Fediverse, you can move servers if you don’t like how the server is moderated and who they federate with, but people are free to say what they want in their servers.
Do you blow a trumpet with your nose?

Technology@beehaw.org•Steve Wozniak says he's "disappointed a lot" by AI and rarely uses it
8·28 days agoI think this sort of thing happens in software engineering a lot… it doesn’t matter whether genAI tools are the right solution to a problem. Billionaires are throwing an alarming amount of money at this, so they are basically trying to get a slice of that pie by virtue signaling that they love genAI, even if they don’t think it’s that valuable.
My employer wants features delivered, I don’t have time to circlejerk about genAI.
Depends on whether or not the Dow is over 50k

4·2 months agoBoth IBM and Oracle I haven’t really worked with because they’re heavily used by massive companies. We had an Oracle database when I was in banking that was because we were self hosting a loan accounting system. IBM does backend data processing stuff for massive companies like American Express and Bank of America. All of the smaller shops I’ve worked in have built things on Microsoft’s stack.

2·2 months agoIt’s more that local authorities are offering incentives to big tech to bring in those data centers, ostensibly because they think it will benefit the area, but more likely because it is benefitting the local authorities personally through kickbacks or campaign donations.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Modern problems require modern solutions
12·2 months agoOh yeah, it’s perfect for corporate America. If fits the bill perfectly for abuse through corporate consolidation:
- working class people NEED it to survive
- workforce theoretically doesn’t require an advanced degree so is therefore ripe for exploitation
These two things together are the holy grail of American capitalism because it means if a handful of companies control all the daycares then they can screw over both labor and consumers through corporate consolidation.
We know the government will never break up the conglomerates, so that leaves unions to hold the ghouls accountable in which case they just close any daycare that unionizes, look for scabs, or try to replace humans with AI.

Is it because Netgear is a “US” company? Meaning they are on the US stock exchange, have corporate offices in the US, and manufacture everything in Asia?
