  • The same thing happens in trans communities, but the answer isn’t for the old guard to try and handle everything themselves, burn out and then shut down newbies that are looking for community and help.

The answer is for the crusty old guard to create the space and keep the worst offenders out, whilst letting the people that aren’t burnt out support each other and keep the community thriving.

Sometimes that means letting common questions be common, because if you’ve got a positive community, someone will always be there with an answer and a link to an even more detailed resource.

  • For what it’s worth, I absolutely want to see duplicate communities across multiple instances. Even if it’s a backup community, folks shouldn’t be left without a space if an instance goes offline, or if an admin goes rogue. I want to see more communities for vulnerable folk across more instances.

I wish there were more queer first instances too, and hopefully, this incident pushes someone in to spinning one up!

  • Nope. I’m not telling anyone to avoid Framework or anyone else.

But they’re not the “ethical” choice. They’re another shitty company doing shitty things that hurt people. That should be a factor in your purchasing decision, but it shouldn’t be the whole of it, because it’s pretty much impossible to exist without supporting companies like that in some way or another.
