It used to be against their policy, now these people openly spam you in the replies.

Of course they profit from it. They don’t care who views the videos or even if it is a real person. All they care about is metrics they can feed to advertisers.

And they allow the fake science channels too. There are lots of them with millions of views. They are as bad as the Batboy or bigfoot type tabloid newspapers in the grocery store.

You can make a YouTube video about literally anything, yes. That is the entire point of YouTube.

Spreading lies and misinformation should not be a business model. If businesses can’t make policy to correct this, then the government should, and that opens up a lot of issues.

That’s not their business model. Their business model is hosting content.

Let’s do a thought experiment. Robert Reich is a popular left-leaning person in all forms of media. He’s also a liar, who plays down his own involvement in protecting his housing investment while constantly arguing for housing policy changes. He’s a NIMBY who wrote letters arguing against low income housing in his area, but consistently argues for low income housing.

Should all of his content be removed? If not, why?

Day one: Dear citizens, your elected government is stepping in to combat the extensive spread of misinformation and lies in consumer media. We have heard your desire for a safer cleaner internet based on scientific fact.

Day ???: Citizen of the state, receive your government sponsored daily truth. Any dissenting opinions will be met with immediate sanctions and corrective discipline. Remember, government is truth, government cannot lie. You will see reason or else.

I mean, look at their handle. It’s not like this is the handle for Famezen, they’ve clearly already had their account removed before. Report function needs someone to use it for it to be able to work, right? On balance, Youtube’s business model goes to assigning value to the action of viewing a video. Subsequently devaluing that metric by collaborating to sell it for a few pennies doesn’t sound like a great plan.

How did this get 80 upvotes lol

“YouTube doesn’t police these random one-video channels I’ve found with 28k views”! What a scandal!
